    Chicken Dalcha Recipe with step by step pictures. This recipe is originated from Hyderabad and the basic ingredients for this recipe is toor dal, vegetables and meat.

    Chicken Dalcha

    Dalcha is a gravy dish which has any meat which is cooked with dal and veggies in it. It is more like a meat sambar. This is a muslim recipe and it is normally served with ghee rice or any mild pulav.

    Ingredients for Chicken Dalcha

    • Oil - 1 tbsp
    • Ghee - 1 tbsp
    • Cinnamon / Pattai - 4 cm piece
    • Cumin Seeds / Jeerakam - 2 tsp
    • Cardamom / Yalakai - 4
    • Cloves / Krambu - 4
    • Onion - 2 large sliced thinly
    • Ginger Garlic Paste - 2 tbsp
    • Tomatoes - 2 large sliced thinly
    • Curry Leaves - a handful
    • Green Chillies - 3 slit
    • Chilli Powder - 2 tsp
    • Coriander Powder - 2 tbsp
    • Cumin Powder - 2 tsp
    • Turmeric Powder / Manjal Podi - 1 tsp
    • Pepper Powder - 1 tsp
    • Garam Masala Powder - 1 tbsp
    • Fennel Seed Powder / Saunf / Sombu - 1 tbsp
    • Salt to taste
    • Mint Leaves - ½ cup chopped
    • Coriander Leaves - ½ cup chopped
    • Toor Dal / Tuvaram paruppu - ¾ cup
    • Chicken - 1 kg with bone
    • Raw Banana - 1 peeled and cubed
    • Potato - 2 medium size peeled and cubed
    • Brinjal - 2 cubed
    • Carrot - 1 cubed
    • Raw Mango - 1 medium size cubed
    • Tamarind Pulp - 2 to 3 tbsp
     

    Even though the ingredients list is quite long and it has so many component in it. But over all it is a simple curry to make. I hope you will give this a try and let me know how it turns out for you.

    How to Make Chicken Dalcha

    1. Pressure cook toor dal with 3 cup of water for 3 whistle, simmer the flame and cook for 10 mins.
    2. Turn off the heat and let the steam escape all by itself. Open the cooker and mash the dal well. Set aside.
    3. Heat oil and ghee in a pressure cooker, add in whole spices and saute for a min.
    4. Add in onions, salt and cook the onions till light brown.
    5. Then add in Ginger garlic paste and saute for a min.
    6. Add in tomatoes, curry leaves, green chillies and saute till the tomatoes turn mushy.
    7. Add in all spice powders and mix well.
    8. Now add in chicken and toss well in the masala. Fry this for 5 mins till the chicken gets nice colour.
    9. Add in coriander and mint leaves. Mix well.
    10. Then add in all veggies except mango and mix well.
    11. Add in water and mix well. Cover and pressure cook for 2 whistle. Simmer the flame for 10 mins.
    12. Turn off the heat and let the steam go all by itself. Open the cooker and add in dal, mango, tamarind pulp.
    13. Simmer this for 10 mins.
    14. Add in more coriander leaves and mix well.
    15. Serve with rice or pulav.

    Ingredients
      

    • Oil - 1 tblspn

    Chicken Dalcha Step by Step

     
    I used these veggies for this curry..I also added a carrot..
    chop them into quite big chunks
    Now take your other ingredients
    I cooked some toor dal in a pressure cooker till it is mushy
    Heat oil and ghee in a pressure cooker
    Add in whole garam masala 
    Add in sliced onions
    Give a quick toss
    Add in salt
    cook till light golden
    Add in ginger garlic paste
    Saute till golden
    Add in tomatoes, curry leaves and green chillies
    Cook till the tomatoes turn mushy
    Add in chilli and coriander powder
    Add in turmeric, garam masala, cumin and pepper powder

     

    some fennel seed powder
    Saute for a min
    Add in chicken
    toss well in the masala..Keep cooking till the chicken gets nice colour
    Now add in mint leaves and coriander leaves
    Mix well again
    Add in all veggies except mango
    mix well
    Pour in water
    give a stir
    Pressure cook it for 2 whistle, simmer for 10 mins
    Once the steam has gone by itself, open the cooker
    Add in cooked dal
    raw mango
    some tamarind pulp
    simmer for 10 mins
    Serve
