Carrot cakes are my absolute favorite ones, I have a normal carrot cake and a richly frosted american version of it in this blog. If carrot cake taste this delicious, how will a beetroot cake taste like. Specially when it is combined with some chocolate. This was the question that was sitting in my mind for ages. I thought to give it a try and this was the result, it was fudgy, chocolaty and tasted so healthy. This version is so simple, you dont need butter or eggs in it. I hope you will love this and let me know if you try this someday.

Preparation Time : 10 mins
Baking Time : 40 mins
Makes one 15 x 15 cm square pan

Ingredients:

All Purpose Flour / Maida – 1 1/4 cup / 150 grams
Sugar – 1 cup / 200 grams
Oil – 1/2 cup / 120 ml / 4 fluid ounces
Curd / Yogurt – 1 cup / 250 ml
Baking powder – 1 tsp
Baking soda – 1/2 tsp
Cocoa Powder – 1/2 cup / 60 grams
Beetroot – 1 large grated / 1.5 cups

Method:

Preheat oven to 180 degree C/ 360 Degree F. Grease a square baking pan with oil or butter and sprinkle with flour. Dust off the excess. Set this aside till use.
Sift together flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda. Set aside.
Take oil, sugar in a bowl and beat till creamy.
Now add in curd and mix well.
Now add the dry ingredients and fold to combine.
Add the grated beetroots and mix well.
Spoon this into a square pan and bake for 30 to 40 min.

Hello aarthi maam I just love your blog and really appreciate your dedication. Can we replace the curd with applesauce in this recipe ? I want to make it for a friend of mine who is vegan. Thank you . Hope you have a great day 🙂
