This soft, jiggly orange jelly is perfect to make when you crave something sweet, light and refreshing.

It is great for parties as well, because it looks so cute and attractive everyone will love it. You can do this with any fruits of your choice.

    Ingredients

    • Orange : Use fresh good quality oranges for best taste. Freshly squeezed orange gives the jelly its natural citrus flavour and color. Pick any orange variety of your choice like navel or mandarin, but choose oranges that are sweet with slightly tangy flavour for a balanced taste.
    • Gelatin : Gelatin is the key setting agent that helps the jelly to set into a soft, smooth and bouncy texture. It creates the classic jiggly look that gently melts in your mouth.
    • Water : Water is used to dissolve and bloom the gelatin properly. It sets the jelly smooth and helps to attain the correct texture.
    • Sugar : Sugar balances the tartness of oranges and adds sweetness. Adjust the quantity depending on how sweet or sour your oranges are.
    • Orange essence : A dash of orange essence added to enhance the natural citrus aroma and taste. Skip if you prefer to have natural orange flavour.
    • Orange food coloring : It is completely optional to use food coloring. It's simply added to give a more vibrant color to the jelly.

    Step by Step Pictures

    Prepare Oranges

1)Choose fresh oranges for this recipe.

2)Wash oranges really well with cold water. Wipe them dry.

3)Now Cut each oranges in half.

4)Squeeze out the juice from them using a lemon squeezer, take care not to puncher the orange shell.

5)Remove as much juice as possible.

6)Remove the membrane from the orange shell using a spoon.

7)Clean shell of an orange. If there is a small hole in the orange, it is not an issue.

8)Now arrange the orange shells in a cupcake mould. Set aside.

    Blooming Gelatin

9)Take gelatin in a bowl. I am using gelatin powder.

10)Add in cold water. Mix well and set aside to soak for atleast 15 minutes.

11)Now you can see the gelatin has softened.

12)Take the bloomed gelatin mix in a sauce pan.

13)Cook on low heat and mix till the gelatin is melted. Set aside.

    Make Orange Jelly Mixture

14)This is freshly squeezed orange juice.

15)Strain the juice through a fine sieve.

16)Add in sugar. Depending on the sweetness of orange juice, you might need to add more or less sugar. Mix until the sugar is melted completely.

17)Add few drops of orange extract and a pinch of orange food colour. This is optional.

18)Now add in the melted gelatin mixture into the orange juice.

19)Mix well, your orange gelatin mixture is ready.

    Setting Orange Jelly

20)Take your orange shells. Fill the orange shells with this orange juice mixture.

21)Fill the orange juice into the shell.

22)Place it in fridge and let it chill in the fridge for 2 to 4 hours.

23)After few hours the orange jelly is set beautifully.

24)Remove it from fridge, and un mould from the case.

    25) Slice them in half.

    26)Serve orange jelly.

    27)Serve immediately.

    Expert Tips

About Gelatin - Make sure to dissolve the gelatin properly for a smooth and even jelly look.  Always cook the gelatin on a low heat until it is fully dissolved. This prevents any lumps and helps to set clean, perfect textured jelly.

Orange Juice - Strain the freshly squeezed juice before mixing with gelatin to remove any seeds or pulp.  Before adding sugar, taste the orange juice. And adjust the sweetness accordingly how sweet or sour the oranges are.

Setting Jelly - You can set the jelly in orange shells for a decorative fun look or use regular jelly moulds or small bowls based on what is available. Chill the jelly for at least 4 hours in the refrigerator to set it completely.

Storage & Serving - Once the orange jelly is fully set, serve it immediately for a refreshing delicious dessert. Store any leftover orange jelly in an airtight container. It stays well in the refrigerator for 2 to 5 days.

    FAQ

Can I skip the orange essence?

Absolutely! Fresh orange juice naturally has enough flavour, so adding essence is completely optional.

Can I use store bought orange juice?

Yes, you can! But remember that store bought orange juice contains more sugar than fresh juice. So, make sure to adjust the sugar quantity accordingly.

Can I make this jelly with other fruits ?

You can use other fresh fruits like mango, pineapple and follow the same method.

Why isn't my jelly setting ?

if the jelly doesn't set properly it is mainly because the gelatin was not fully dissolved. And make sure to cook it on low heat until it is completely melted.
