    Aloo Chana Chaat Recipe

    Aloo chana chaat is a tasty and healthy Indian street food recipe . It can be made easily and quick. This is also known as potato chickpea chaat and spicy aloo chana salad.

    This easy snacks recipe uses easily available ingredients like boiled potatoes, chickpeas, onions, tomatoes and coriander leaves. These are mixed with green chutney and tamarind chutney.

    This is one delicious and easy chaat recipe which you can rustle up in few minutes. So easy to put together, but taste really spot on. I loved it to the core.

    Mostly chaats can be healthy, sometimes it has a lot of deep fried stuffs in them which makes them little heavy on tummy, This is one chaat which my hubby made, he added freshly chopped onions, tomatoes in them. So it is much healthier than normal ones. I finally added some sev, papdi and boondhi to it for some crunch.

    About Aloo chana chaat

    It can be topped with sev, kara boondhi and chat masala for extra flavour. This is perfect for light evening snack and party appetizer. This aloo chana chaat recipe is not only full of flavours but it is also healthy. It can be served with crispy papdi or puri for a crunchy touch.

    Aloo chana chaat is a famous snack loved my all age group peoples for its spicy and tangy taste. It is a healthy snack which can be prepared quickly using everyday ingredients. This chaat is a dish which is light but filling. This dish is perfect for get-togethers and evening snacks. The vegetables, chutney and spices makes it tasty and refreshing. 

    Homemade Chaat Add ons

    • Papdi or Puri- 5 to 6
    • Green Chutney as needed
    • Dates & Tamarind Chutney 
    • Sev / Oma podi as needed for topping
    • Kara Boondhi as needed for topping

    This chaat has a two different texture which is soft and crunchy. It makes every bit different and flavorful. It is easy to make even for beginners without much time and effort. This dish can be customised with any vegetables and chutney. Aloo chana chaat is a healthy snack which has good protein from chickpeas and energy from potatoes.

    The flavours like spicy, tangy and sweet makes this really every bite exciting and enjoyable. I made this chaat when I feel hungry or need a snack in between meals. Eating this aloo chana chaat makes me feel satisfied and happy. It is comforting and delicious.

    Ingredients

    Papdi or Puri: These are crispy and crunchy snack which adds a nice texture to the chaat.

    Potatoes: It makes the snack healthy. They absorbs the flavours of the spices and chutney well.

    Chana: This adds protein to the dish. And they have good soft texture.

    Chutney: green chutney is made with fresh herbs and spices. This gives spicy flavour to the chaat. Dates and tamarind chutney adds sweetness and sourness. Which balances the strong flavour in the chaat.

    Vegetables - Onions, tomatoes, cucumber, coriander leaves is added for crunch and freshness.

    Crunchy Element - Sev or Oma podi toppings give extra texture and a burst of crunchiness in every bite. Kara boondhi adds spicy crunch which makes the chaat even more delicious.

    Chat masala powder & Lemon Juice: This spice adds tangy, salty and spicy notes which brings all the flavours together.

    Expert Tips

    • Boil the potatoes and chickpeas in advance. It saves the time.
    • Add some chopped cucumbers for freshness.
    • Use roasted spices. It gives a good flavour to the dish.
    • Use baked or air fried papdi for a healthier version.
    • Add yogurt to make it creamy and mild.
    • Serve it immediately so it stays crispy and fresh.

    Step by Step Pictures

    1)Take all ingredients needed.

    2)take a mixing bowl. Add in boiled potatoes. I like to cube them into small pieces.

    3)Add in boiled chana or chickpeas.

    4)Add in onions. Instead of onions, you can add spring onions which gives milder taste.

    5)Add in chopped tomatoes.

    6)Add in some coriander leaves. If you like it spicy, add chopped green chillies too.

    7)Add in green chutney. Recipe here.

    8)Add in tamarind chutney. Recipe here.

    9)Now these are optional. Add in some kara boondi for crunchy.

    10)Add some oma podi or sev.

    11)Add in some crushed papdi. These three can be left out for healthy version.

    12)Sprinkle chaat masala powder and lemon juice.

    13)Toss well to combine.

    13)Serve immediately.

    Bhel chaat recipe: It is a popular Indian street snack which is made with puffed rice, vegetables and tangy chutneys. It is crunchy, spicy and fun to eat dish.

    Dahi papdi chaat recipe: This is a tasty snack with crispy papdi, curd and chutneys. It is cool, creamy and perfect for hot days.

    Samosa chaat recipe: This is made by breaking samosas and mixing them with chutneys, onion and spices. It is spicy, crunchy and full of flavours.

    Aloo chaat recipe: This is a simple and delicious snack which is made with spiced potatoes. It is easy to prepare and lived by people of all ages.

    Maggi bhel chaat recipe: It is a full twist recipe. Where cooked maggi is mixed with vegetables and chutneys. This is a quick tasty and flavorful dish which is different from other chaat recipes.

    Q: Can I use canned chickpeas instead of boiled ones?

    Yes you can. Just drain and rinse them before adding.

    Q: Can I make this without chutneys?

    Yes. But chutneys give more flavour to the dish.

    Q: Can I prepare this in advance?

    Yes you can prepare the ingredients earlier. But mix everything before serving.

    Q: Can I add other vegetables?

    You can add cucumber, capcicum or sprouts to make it more healthier.

    Q: How long will it stay fresh?

    It is best to eat within an hour, because the papdi or puri can become soft after few minutes.

    • 6 no Papdi
    • 1 large Potatoes peeled, cubed and boiled
    • 1 cup Chana / Chickpeas boiled and drained
    • 2 tablespoon Green Chutney
    • 2 tablespoon Tamarind Chutney
    • 1 medium Onion peeled & chopped finely
    • 1 medium Tomatoes chopped finely
    • 1 teaspoon Chat Masala Powder as needed to taste
    • 2 teaspoon Lemon Juice as needed to taste
