    How to Cook Matta Rice

    Healthy matta rice which is relatively easy to cook. It is high in fibre and very good for health. This rice can be served with fish curry. Cooking kerala red rice can be little technical but it is relatively easy to cook.

    How to Cook Kerala Matta Rice (Draining method)

    • Wash matta rice at least 5 to 6 times.
    • Soak rice in water for at least 30 mins.
    • Bring water to a boil.
    • Add soaked rice and cook for 20 mins on medium heat stirring often. Check whether the rice is done by pressing the rice.
    • Once it is cooked, drain the rice.
    • Serve.

    How to Cook Kerala Matta Rice (Pressure cooker method)

    • Wash matta rice at least 5 to 6 times.
    • Soak rice in water for at least 30 mins.
    • Take the rice in a pressure cooker. For every 1 cup of rice add 4 cups of water. Add salt to taste. 
    • Bring it to a boil. Cover and pressure cook for 6 to 7 whistle. Let the pressure escape by itself. 
    • Open the cooker. If you see any leftover water in the pressure cooker. Turn on the heat and cook the water off on low heat.
    • Let it cool before serving.
    • Serve.

    How to Cook Kerala Matta Rice (in instant pot)

    • Wash matta rice at least 5 to 6 times.
    • Soak rice in water for at least 30 mins.
    • Take the rice in the instant pot. For every 1 cup of rice add 8 cups of water. Add salt to taste. 
    • Cover and set the instant pot to pressure cook mode and set timer to 8 minutes. 
    • Once the timer goes off. Let the pressure release by itself.
    • Open the instant pot. Drain the rice in a colander.
    • Let it cool before serving.
    • Serve.
