I was little worried that i didn’t post any new recipes for pongal this year. I always wanted to make something new this pongal, but somehow i couldn’t find time to make. This morning when i woke up, i was stubborn to make something and guess what i made not one but two recipes for this pongal.

I saw this pongal recipe in quite a few blogs, and i wanted to try it so badly. So i gave it a shot and it came out quite good. For me it tasted like sarkarai pongal in white form. But the taste was so good, everyone loved it. And when i was shooting this, my sister brought maha. As you can see she has started grabbing things:)

Check out my other pongal special recipes too..

Preparation Time : 10 mins
Cooking Time : 30 mins
Serves : 3 to 4

Ingredients:

Raw Rice / Pacharisi – 1/2 cup ( You can use any rice)
Milk – 2 cup
Kalkandu / Sugar Candy – 1/3 cup or adjust as you like
Cardamom Powder / Yelakai Podi – 1 tsp
Ghee – 1 tblspn
Cashew – 2 tblspn
Kishmish / Sultanas – 2 tblspn

Method:

Take kalkandu in a mixer and powder it finely.Set aside till use.

Take raw rice in a bowl and wash it well. Drain the water and take the rice in pressure cooker. Add milk to it, cook this for 5 whistle, simmer the flame and cook for 10 mins. Now turn off the heat and let the pressure go all by itself. Open the pressure cooker and mix the rice with a spoon.

Put this cooker back on heat and reduce the flame to a low.

Add Powdered kalkadu to the hot rice and mix well. Keep this on low flame and mix well. Cook till the mix is thick.

Now melt some ghee in a kadai and fry some cashews and sultanas.

Now add in the fried nuts and cardamom powder to the rice and mix well.

Serve hot.

Notes:

1)If you cannot find raw rice, you can use any rice you like.
2) Adjust the sweet level as you like.
