    Pacha Payaru Sundal Recipe (Green Gram Sundal Recipe)

    I should have posted this recipe for Navratri, but i ran out of time, so i am sharing it now. This has become my habit, i start posting recipes for festival late, then i make too much dishes and i ran out of time to post that..I have one more Sundal recipe to be posted, and i have few more Diwali recipe to be posted too. I will try to avoid this habit in future..

    This is a simple Sundal recipe and it is a savoury variety. I have a sweet version of this too. And i have to mention this, if you are making this for Navaratri, avoid onions.So try this out and let me know how it turns out..

    Ingredients for Pacha Payaru Sundal Recipe (Green Gram Sundal Recipe)

    • Green Gram / Pacha Payaru - 1 cup
    • Salt to taste
    • Water as needed
    • Onion - 1 small chopped finely
    • Coconut - ¼ cup grated

    For tempering:

    • Oil - 1 tsp
    • Mustard Seeds / Kaduku - 1 tsp
    • Urad dal / Ulundu Paruppu - 1 tsp
    • Dry Red Chilli - 1
    • Asafoetida / Hing / Kaya Podi - ¼ tsp
    • Curry leaves - 1 sprig

    How to Make Pacha Payaru Sundal Recipe (Green Gram Sundal Recipe)

    1. Wash and Soak green gram for 8 hours or overnight.
    2. Now drain them and add it to a sauce pan. Cover with water. Bring it to boil and simmer the pan.
    3. Cover partially and cook for 15 mins till the dal is cooked completely. Once they are done, drain them and set aside.
    4. Now heat oil in a pan. Add all the ingredients given for tempering. Saute them for a min.
    5. Add in onions and mix well. Cook them for a min.
    6. Now add in the cooked dal and toss well. Season with salt.
    7. Once they are mixed. Add in the coconut and mix well.
    8. Toss this for a min.
    9. Serve.

    Ingredients

    • 1 cup Green Gram / Pacha Payaru
    • Salt to taste

    • ¼ cup grated Coconut
    • For tempering:
    • 1 tsp Oil
    • 1 tsp Mustard Seeds / Kaduku
    • 1 tsp Urad dal / Ulundu Paruppu
    • 1 Dry Red Chilli
    • ¼ tsp Asafoetida / Hing / Kaya Podi
    • 1 sprig Curry leaves

    Pacha Payaru Sundal Recipe Step by Step

    Soak Green gram
    Boil them till tender
    drain em
    Take all your ingredients
    Heat oil
    saute the tempering spices
    Add in some shallots
    fry them for a min
    Add in cooked gram
    season with salt
    mix well
    Add in some coconut
    toss well
    Serve
