This is one recipe which we make quite often. But not everytime we add jaggery into this. We make it without any sweetness and add some sugar while eating. I will post the savoury version soon. For now i am giving you the traditional way of making this sweet sundal.

Check out the beach sundal which i posted yesterday.

    Preparation Time : 8 hours
    Cooking Time : 20 mins + 10 mins
    Serves - 4 to 5

    Ingredients:

Green Gram / Pacha Payaru - 1 cup
    Jaggery / Sarkarai - 1 tblspn
    Salt to taste
    Coconut - 3 tblspn grated

    For Tempering:
    Oil - 1 tsp
    Mustard seeds / Kaduku - 1 tsp
    Urad dal / Ulundu - 1 tsp
Dry Red Chilli - 2 cut into small pieces
    Curry leaves - 1 spring

    Method:

Soak green gram in lots of water overnight or upto 8 hours. Drain them and add it to a sauce pan. Cover it with water, simmer the pan and cook for 15 to 20 mins till it is completely cooked. Drain them and set aside.

Make jaggery syrup. Take jaggery and add a splash of water. Boil it till the jaggery is melted. Strain and set aside.

Heat oil in a kadai. Add in the seasoning ingredients and saute for a min.

Now add in cooked dal and salt. Mix well.

Pour in jaggery water and cook on high heat till the water is absorbed by the dal.

Now add in grated coconut and mix well.

    Serve.
