This is my mom's special recipe. She make this kanji along with the green gram patties which pairs beautifully well with this..It is our families traditional recipe..Hope you will love it too..

Preparation Time : 10 mins
Cooking Time : 35 to 45 mins
Serves : 4 to 5

For Porridge:
Rice - 1 cup
Green Gram / Pacha payaru - 1/2 cup
Water - 6 cup
Ghee - 1 tsp
Cumin Seeds / Jeerakam - 1 tblspn
Milk - 1 liter or as needed

For Green Gram Patties:
Green Gram / Pacha Payaru - 1 cup
Coconut - 1/4 cup
Garlic - 2 cloves
Salt to taste
Oil for pan frying

Wash and take rice and green gram in a pressure cooker. Add in water and cover it. Pressure cook it for 4 whistle, simmer for 10 mins. Turn off the heat and let the steam go all by itself. Open the cooker and add in milk. Mix well. Heat a tsp of ghee in a small pan and add in cumin seeds and fry till golden, pour this into the porridge and mix well. Porridge done..

Now for the green gram pattice..Take green gram and roast it slightly. Now soak it in hot water for 10 mins.

Take the drained green gram, coconut, garlic and salt in a mixer and make it into a fine puree.

Heat a tawa, take small portion out of this and flatten it over the tawa. Cook on both sides drizzle with little oil. Once it is cooked. Remove it and serve with porridge.
