Prawn & Coconut Stir Fry Recipe - Chemmeen Thoran Recipe

This is a simple coconut based prawn dish. it is so flavourful and taste so delicious. You can have it with plain rice and rasam. Taste heavenly.

Preparation Time : 10 mins
Cooking Time : 20 to 25 mins
Serves: 2 to 3


Coconut Oil - 1 tblspn
Onion - 1 medium size sliced thinly
Curry leaves a handful

For Marination:
Prawns - 250 grams chopped into small pieces
Ginger Garlic Paste - 1 tsp
Chilli Powder - 1 tsp
Lemon Juice or Vinegar - 1 tblspn
Turmeric Powder - 1 tsp
Salt to taste

For Grinding:
Coconut - 1 cup grated
Dry Red Chillies - 2
Fennel Seeds / Saunf / Sombu - 1 tsp
Cinnamon / Pattai - 1 small piece


Take marination ingredients in a bowl and mix well. Leave it to marinate for 10 mins.

Take grinding ingredients in a blender and make it into a coarse mix, dont add water to this.

Heat oil in a pan, add in onions, curry leaves and give s quick toss. Add in the prawns and cook on high heat till the water leached from the prawns dries up.

Now add in coconut masala and toss well till it is well roasted.

Now serve.

Take all your ingredients

Chop up your prawns

Now it is chopped up

Take it in a bowl

add in ginger garlic paste

Add in salt and turmeric 

add in lemon juice

i added some chilli powder

mix well and leave it to marinate

Now take coconut in a blender

add in fennel seeds, cinnamon and dry red chilli

crush them coarsely...dont add water when grinding..it has to be dry..

heat little coconut oil in a pan,,add in onions and curry leaves

give a quick toss

add in prawns

toss well..you will see the water coming from it

cook on a high heat and dry the water..

now add in coconut masala

toss well

Fry them on a high heat till it is toasted
