Poha is one of my favourite, we make it atleast once a week, but mostly it is southindian way by adding coconut to it..But this recipe is new to me and it taste just yummy. I have had this poha quite a few times during our trip to north, i loved it for breakfast..So i tried it yesterday and it was delicious..So here i am with the post.

Preparation Time : 10 mins
Cooking Time : 25 to 30 mins
Serves : 3 to 4

Ingredients:

Poha / Aval / Flattened Rice – 2 cups
Potato – 1 medium size peeled and cubed
Oil – 2 tblspn
Onion – 1 small chopped finely
Green Chillies – 3 to 5 chopped finely
Peanuts – 2 tblspn
Chana Dal / Kadalai Paruppu – 1 tsp
Urad dal / Ulundu Paruppu – 1 tsp
Mustard Seeds / Kaduku – 1 tsp
Asafoetida / Hing / Kaya Podi – 1/4 tsp
Curry leaves a sprig
Salt to taste
Sugar- 1/2 tsp + 1/2 tsp
Turmeric Powder / Manjal Podi – 1/2 tsp + 1/2 tsp
Chilli Powder – 1 tsp
Lemon Juice to taste
Coriander leaves a handful finely chopped
Water – 1/2 cup

Method:

Take poha in a bowl. Add in water, salt, 1/2 tsp sugar, 1/2 tsp turmeric and mix well. Set aside.

Now heat oil in a kadai. Add in peanuts and roast till golden. Add in mustard, chana dal, urad dal, hing and mix well. Fry till it turns golden.

Add in onions, curry leaves and green chilli. Add in little salt and sugar along with turmeric. Mix well.

Now add in potatoes and chilli powder, Mix well. Cover and simmer till potatoes are cooked.

Now increase the heat and roast the potatoes till it gets golden.

Now add in the poha and toss well. Once everything is heated up, add in coriander leaves and lemon juice.

Mix well and serve.

Take all your ingredients
Take poha in a bowl
add in water
season with some salt and sugar
add little turmeric powder
mix well using your hands
set aside for few mins
Heat oil in a kadai, add in peanuts and roast till golden
add in mustard, chana dal and urad dal
let them sizzle and get golden
add little asafoetida
add in curry leaves, onions and green chillies
add little salt and sugar
add in turmeric powder
mix well
add in little chilli powder
now add in potatoes
mix well
cover and cook on low flame till the potatoes are done
now the potatoes are cooked
increase the flame and roast the potatoes till it gets golden
now add in the poha
toss well
add in coriander leaves
squeeze little lemon juice
mix well
serve

    We make it a little differently but my husband doesn't like poha at all..I do make it for me and the kids though! That reminds me that I haven't blogged about this 🙂
