Tirunelveli Halwa Recipe - Godumai Halwa Recipe - Wheat Halwa Recipe


This halwa was on my to do list for ages. Finally me and mom made it couple days back and it was a huge hit. I shared it on my youtube channel and it was pretty success. So i thought of sharing step wise pictures on blog too.

This halwa was rich and it was pretty easy to make as well. All you need is follow few steps and you will get perfect halwa each time.

Preparation Time : 10 mins
Soaking Time : 6 to 8 hours
Resting Time : 3 to 4 hours
Cooking Time : 1 hour

Ingredients:

Samba Wheat Rava (Broken Wheat) - 1 cup
Sugar - 3 cup
Water - 4 cup
Ghee - 1 cup
Cashews - 1/4 cup chopped

Method:

Soak wheat rava in water for 6 to 8 hours. Drain and take it in a blender, puree till smooth. Now strain this and extract as much milk as possible. Add water to the rava and extract as much milk possible.

Now set this milk aside for 3 to 4 hours. Now discard the top liquid. Add 4 cup of water to the milk and mix well.

Take 2,5 cup of sugar in a nonstick pan and add 1/2 cup of water to it., take 1/2 cup of sugar in a small sauce pan and add 1/4 cup water to it. Now cook the 1/2 cup sugar till dark caramel is achieved. 

Now pour the caramel into the sugar syrup in nonstick pan and mix well.

Add the wheat milk to this and mix well.

Keep cooking till it gets thick. At this point start adding ghee a spoonful at a time. Mix well.

Keep cooking till ghee separates. It will take around 45 mins to 1 hour.

Now add fried cashews and mix well.

Serve.

set this aside for 3 to 4 hours


now take water has separated on top


discard the water


add 4 cups of fresh water to the milk


take 2.5 cup of sugar in large nonstick pan, take 1/2 cup sugar in small pan


add 1/2 cup water to large pot and 1/4 cup water to small pan


now cook the sugar till caramel stage is achieved


keep cooking


now it is almost done


done


pour this into the large sugar syrup


mix well


add the milk


keep cooking


it will thicken


now start adding ghee


keep mixing


it will thicken even more


add ghee little by little and keep mixing


cook the halwa for 40 to 45 mins


add ghee


and keep cooking


now the ghee will ooze out of halwa


add fried cashews


mix well


Done
