Custard Powder Halwa Recipe

I love jelly type halwas, my favourite one is a fruit halwa which is available in our near by bakeries. It is jelly like, full of fruit and so yummy. Making them at home can be quite tricky but not all halwas. I have already shared a easy cornflour halwa in this blog. This is another addition to my easy halwa recipes..
This halwa is so simple, just few ingredients thrown together in a thick bottom kadai. Thats is..The one thing which you have to do is keep on mixing till it gets thick. It wont take long, just 15 mins is good to make a batch of these.
This halwa dont need that much ghee as well. So it is quite healthy and great for kids..
I hope you will love this out and let me know if you try it..
Preparation Time : 2 mins
Cooking Time : 15 to 20 mins
Makes : 16 pieces
Recipe Source: Tickling Palates

Ingredients:
Custard Powder – 1 cup ( I used vanilla flavoured)
Sugar – 3 cups
Water – 4 cup
Cashewnuts – 15 chopped finely
Ghee – 3 tblspn

Method:
Take a heavy bottom pan, add in custard powder, sugar and water, Mix well so now lumps are formed..
Now put this on high heat and keep whisking till it is thick, glossy and jelly like.
Now use a spoon to mix and put the heat on medium heat.
Add a tblspn of ghee and keep mixing..
After 3 mins add another tblspn of ghee and mix well.
Now it will get thick and non sticky. Add in another tblspn of ghee and keep cooking.
At one stage the halwa will leave the sides of the pan. at that point add in cashews and mix well.
The halwa will look non sticky, it will leave the pan, it will be thick and glossy, and the ghee will ooze from the sides of the pan.
At this point pour this into a greased pan and set it in fridge for 1 to 2 hours.
Once it is set, invert it to a cutting board and cut it into slices.
Serve.

Pictorial:
Take your ingredients

In a heavy bottom pan, take custard powder

add in sugar

and pour in water slowly while mixing

mix well so no lumps are formed

Now put this on stove and heat it up on high heat whisking constantly

It will get thick, transparent, jelly like…Now keep the heat on medium flame

now take the whisk off and use a wooden spoon to mix

i added a tblspn of ghee at a time and kept on mixing,

keep mixing

add another tblspn of ghee

mix well

add another tblspn and mix well

it will start to leave from the sides and gets non sticky

add in cashews

mix well…thats it..the colour will be also changed

pour the mix into a greased tray..and chill it for a hour

now you can invert it..

make it into slices

enjoy

@Anonymousit will take a good couple of hours to set..you can pop this in fridge for easy setting. If it is still sticky then you haven'cooked enough, add it back to the pan and cook for few more mins,

Will this halwa taste good with caramel custard powder? Have one unused at home as no one here likes it for the regular custard with fruits. Need your opinion!

    Hi Aarti,

the texture of my halwa was same as jelly , not stiff like Karachi halwa. Also it spoiled within 2 days.

Can you help me to understand what went wrong.
