Instant Oats Idli Recipe / Oats Rava Idli Recipe

I love making idlies for breakfast..I have quite few idli recipes in my blog. You can check out my ragi idli, rava idli, wheat rava idli, thinai idli. This shows my love for idlies, all because my hubby loves to have it so much, so i make it quite often. And to a change from normal idlies i try different idlies..

This is my oats version. I have a oats veg idli already in this blog. But this is a little different from that.  It turned out so moist and fluffy, i like to have it with tomato chutney, but it equally taste good with sambar and coconut chutney..So give this a try and let me know how it turns out for you..
Preparation Time : 15 mins
Cooking Time : 8 to 10 mins per batch
Serves : 4

Ingredients:

Oats Flour – 2 cups
Sooji / Rava – 1 cup
Curd / Yogurt – 1 cup
Carrots – 1 medium size grated
Green Chilli – 2 finely chopped
Coriander Leaves – 3 tblspn finely chopped
Curry leaves a sprig
Salt to taste
Baking Soda – 1/2 tsp
Water – as needed

For Seasoning:
Oil – 1 tsp
Mustard Seeds / Kaduku – 1 tsp
Urad dal / Ulundu Paruppu – 1 tsp
Cumin Seeds / Jeerakam – 1/2 tsp
Asafoetida / Kaya podi / Hing – 1/4 tsp

Method:
Take oats flour in a bowl, add in sooji, curd, water, carrots, chillies, curry leaves, coriander leaves and water. Mix well to a thick batter.
Make seasoning by heating oil and crackling all ingredients given for seasoning. Let them sizzle for a min.
Pour this over the batter and mix well.
Now add more water if the batter is too thick. It should be pouring consistency.
Now add in baking soda and mix well.
Grease a idli plate with oil. Pour ladleful of batter in each mould and steam it for 8 to 10 mins.
Once it is steamed, remove it and let it cool for 2 mins.
Now dip a spoon in water and slide under the idlies.
Serve this with any chutney of your choice.

Pictorial:
Take all your ingredients

In the rava dosa recipe, I usually replace the rava with instant oats.. How I do it is: 1 cup oats (slightly fried and crushed coarsely), 1/2 cup maida and 1/2 cup rice flour.. It's crispy and nice…

    Hi AArthi,
I make oats dosa. I roast 1measure oats, 1 msr poha(aval), 1 msr rava separately and powder them with salt. This i store so that i can use whenever i want. To make dosa or rather uthappam, i add finely chopped carrots, beans, cabbage, capsicum, green chillies, curry leaves to it and soak for 15 min in curd. Then i prepare dosais. Very tasty and nutritious

    Best regards,
    Vidya Vaidyanathan

    Hi,
Can I store the batter for a day or two- with all ingredients mixed except the soda bicarb?
My idlis turned out bitter, any idea why?
    Thanks.

@AnonymousI am not sure whether you can keep for 2 days. You can keep this for few hours. thats it. Since it has curd, it will turn sour.

Thanks for your recipe…I wanted to use up the oats sitting in my pantry…however the idlis did not rise …we're flat….I added both yogurt n eno…any idea what I could have done wrong?

@Veenai think u must have added too much eno, or the batter was too thin, it has to be thick
