Merry Christmas Everyone.. Each year i used to prepare a entire feast for christmas, since hubby is on a fasting for lord ayyappan, it is completely going to be vegetarian. Hope everyone is having a wonderful time.To celebrate this christmas i am sharing a simple payasam recipe..
Sago payasam is my favorite..I love sago a lot..When i feel tired and not in a cooking mood. I used to boil sago with some milk, add sugar and have it warm. I used to call it as “Ball Paal”..That’s my language..This is a rich way of making it, by reducing the milk and making it thick, then adding lots of sugar and condensed milk. Finally finishing it off with cardamom powder and nuts. So try it and let me know how it turns out..
Preparation Time : 10 mins
Soaking Time : 1 hour
Cooking Time : 40 to 45 mins
Serves – 4 to 5
Sago / Sabudana / Javvarisi – 1 cup
Milk – 750 ml
Sugar – 1/2 cup
Milkmaid / Condensed Milk – 1/2 cup
Cardamom Powder / Yelakai podi – 1 tsp
Nuts – 3 tblspn (I used cashews, pista, almonds)
Ghee – 1 tsp optional
Wash sago well in water, Cover them with fresh water and soak them in water for a hour. Now it must have doubled in size.
Take milk in a sauce pan, bring it to boil. Simmer till it has reduced a little. It will take around 15 mins.
Now add in sago, mix well. Simmer the flame and cook for 20 mins.
Now add in sugar, condensed milk and mix well.
Once it is mixed up, add in cardamom powder and nuts. If you wish, heat ghee and fry up the nuts and add it in.
Mix well and serve warm or cold.
