    Roti Jala Recipe

This is a net pancake that is a speciality of Malaysia...Very easy to make..For making that you will need a squeeze bottle like the one which I showed in the pictures or else you can buy a mould that is specially designed for this,it is available in all plastic shops..It will look something like this. I served this with sesame chicken.

    About this Recipe

Roti jala, roti kirai, or roti renjis are popular Malay and Minangkabau tea time snacks served with curry dishes in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore. The roti jala is a lovely dish that, due to its construction, resembles a lace doily. This is a very traditional Malay dish that is usually made from scratch and served at special occasions such as weddings and festivals. It is typically served in groups of three to four pieces with curries, particularly chicken curry, as a substitute for rice. Roti jala literally translates to net bread, referring to its intricate net design inspired by Malaysian fishermens nets.

Ingredients for Malaysian Lace Pancakes :

    Milk:
Aside from flavour, the purpose of milk in a pancake recipe is to dissolve the flour and other ingredients and provide a liquid structure. This means that any liquid will suffice.

    Turmeric Powder :
The turmeric root is quite bitter, but has an almost citrusy taste, compared to the powder. Turmeric also has something of a sweet taste, and it is quite earthy. When you use the powder, you're unlikely to notice the texture unless you use a substantial amount, but it is somewhat gritty.

I haven't had this roti jala for a long, long time. When I was young had a Malay neighbour and this grandma used to make this, no gadget, only used her hands to swirl the batter onto the tawa.
