    Raw Banana sukka

I had few raw banana lying in the fridge, i wanted to use them in a different recipe other than poriyal, podimas, fry or my favorite podi fry. This is a dry version of the sukka which I usually make with mutton. It tasted so good and I served it with paruppu rasam, vallarai keerai kootu.

    About Raw Banana Sukka

Mutton sukka is one of the most popular dish all over India. This is a vegetarian version of the popular dish. It is made with raw banana and it is loved by everyone. Raw banana is a perfect substitute for meat, it has the meaty texture and can absorb the flavours added in it.

I made this with basic spices and masala. I added a mixture of coconut and fennel seeds to make it more flavourful and sukka like. This sukka banana can be served with rice, rasam or even curd rice.

    Raw Banana Sukka Ingredients

Raw Banana / Vazhakkai - use firm raw banana for this recipe. You can use any variety of raw banana like raw plantain too.

Onion & Tomato - onions and tomatoes form the base of the chukka. it adds flavour and taste.

Green Chilli - you can skip green chillies if you don't want to use it. Since we are using red chilli powder, green chillies are mainly for flavour.

Ginger Garlic Paste - most important flavouring. I grind equal part of ginger and garlic to make ginger garlic paste.

Spice powders - basic spice powders like chilli, coriander, turmeric, garam masala powder is used.

Chukka Masala Paste - I ground coconut and fennel seeds to a coarse mixture. This dries the vazhakkai chukka and makes it more flavourful.

Tempering Spices - mustard, urad dal, asafoetida, curry leaves is added for flavour. You can use fennel seeds as well.

Oil - I like to use coconut oil in this recipe for more flavour. Whenever I use coconut in the recipe, I like to cook the dish in coconut oil.
