    Capsicum Chutney

    Capsicum chutney is a versatile recipe to make and serve with idli or dosa. I have made a variety of three chutney recipe using different coloured bell peppers. I have compiled all the chutney in this single post so it will be helpful to you. Each version of this chutney is little different to compliment the colours of the bell pepper.

    About Capsicum Chutney (Bell Pepper Chutney)

    Delicious and simple chutney made with bell peppers or capsicum. This simple chutney taste amazing with idli and dosa. You can even use this as spread for sandwiches too.

    A combination of onions, green chillies, tomatoes are used in different versions of this chutney recipe.

    Capsicum Chutney Ingredients

    Capsicum | Bell Pepper - You can use any colour capsicum as you wish. If you want the colours to pop for each colour capsicum follow the recipes listed below.

    Onions - Onions not only add flavour to the chutney but improves the quantity of the chutney when ground.

    Chillies - Dry red chillies or green chillies are used in these recipes.

    Tomatoes - Tomato is added in the chutney to give a nice tangy touch. 

    Tempering - spices like mustard seeds, urad dal, dry chillies, curry leaves are used for tempering.

    Red Capsicum Chutney

    1)Take all your ingredients

    2)Add in dry red chillies and chopped garlic

    3)saute for a min.

    4)take it in a blender

    5)Saute capsicum and tomatoes

    cook tomatoes and capsicum

    6)it will take 3 to 4 mins

    saute for 2 mins

    7)now cooked.

    9)add salt.

    11)Grind till smooth.

    12)Now make seasoning. heat oil and add mustard and urad dal.

    15)Mix well

    16)Cook till thickened

    Green Capsicum Chutney Recipe

    Green Bell Pepper chutney is packed with full of flavour and makes a delicious dip for chips too. Sesame seeds are roasted and crushed till coarse. Capsicum is sauted with onions, green chillies and curry leaves. Then it is blended with tamarind, sugar and salt. Final a tempering is given to the chutney.

    1)Roast sesame seeds in a dry pan till roasted.

    2)heat oil. Add mustard and cumin, chillies, garlic, curry leaves. Add in green capsicum.

    3)Saute till capsicum is cooked. Add salt, roasted sesame, tamarind and coriander leaves.

    4)grind into a smooth puree.

    Yellow Capsicum Chutney Recipe

    I added green chillies and extra turmeric to this chutney to keep it bright yellow in colour. All I did saute onion, yellow capsicum, green chillies in a 2 tsp of oil. Add turmeric, salt, little sugar and little tamarind. Grind into a puree. Make tempering with oil, mustard, curry leaves and add chutney. Cook for 2 mins. Make sure you try this with idli or dosa.

    Ingredients

    Red Capsicum Chutney

    • 1 Red Capsicum cubed
    • 1 large Tomato cubed
    • 5 cloves Garlic peeled and chopped
    • 3 Dry Red Chillies
    • Salt to taste
    • 1 small piece Tamarind a small piece
    • 3 tbsp Oil
    • ½ tsp Mustard Seeds
    • ½ tsp Urad dal

    Green Capsicum Chutney

    • 2 chopped Green Capsicum chopped
    • 2 Green chilli chopped
    • 1 sprig Curry leaves
    • 6 cloves Garlic
    • 1 tbsp Sesame Seeds
    • 1 tsp Cumin seeds
    • 1 tsp Mustard seeds
    • 1 tbsp Tamarind paste
    • 2 tbsp Coriander leaves
    • ½ tsp Turmeric powder
    • Salt to taste
    • 1 tsp Sugar
    • 1 tbsp Oil

    Yellow Capsicum Chutney Recipe

    • 1 Yellow Bell Pepper chopped
    • 1 Onion peeled and chopped
    • 3 Green Chilli
    • 1 tsp Turmeric Powder
    • Salt to taste
    • ½ tsp Sugar
    • 1 tsp Tamarind Pulp
    • 3 tbsp Oil
    • 1 tsp Mustard Seeds

    Instructions

    Red Capsicum Chutney

    • Heat 1 tbsp oil, fry chillies and garlic till golden. Remove to a blender.
    • In the same oil, fry capsicum and tomatoes. Cook till raw smell leaves away.
    • Take them in the same blender, add in salt and tamarind.
    • Puree smoothly.
    • Heat oil in a pan, add in mustard and urad dal. Add in pureed chutney and cook till oil separates.
    • Serve with dosa or idli.

    Green Capsicum Chutney

    • Heat a frying pan and add sesame seeds in it..Toast till golden(they will start jumping out of the pan)..Remove that and let it cool..After it gets cooled grind it into a fine powder.
    • Heat 1 tblspn oil in a pan and crackle some mustard and cumin seeds.
    • Throw in curry leaves,green chilli and garlic.
    • Add in salt and turmeric powder..Now add in chopped capsicum pieces and mix well.
    • Cover it and let it cook till tender.Add some sugar and mix well.
    • Add in the poppy seed powder and mix well. Pour in the tamarind pulp and mix well.
    • Let it cool down.Then grind it into a smooth paste by adding some water.
    • Serve with idlis or dosa.

    Yellow Capsicum Chutney

    • Heat 1 tbsp of oil in a kadai. Add in onions, capsicum and saute them for 5 mins or so.
    • Add in salt, sugar, tamarind and turmeric. Keep cooking them for another 5 mins or so.
    • Now cool this a little and make it into a fine puree.
    • Heat 2 tbsp of oil in the same pan and crackle some mustard seeds.
    • Add in the pureed mix and cook till oil separates.
    • Enjoy with dosa.
