Homemade Flour Tortilla

Flour Tortillas
Hai guys welcome to another wonderful Blogging Marathan Sixth Edition.I am going to cook under the theme “Regional Special” this week..And I am gonna do dishes from the place “MEXICO”..I love Mexican food a lot..I am going do many authentic dishes from mexico throughout this week.So please check it...Today I am gonna post three basic recipes of mexico,they are Tortillas , Salsa and Refried beans..These are the important dishes in their cuisine and it is basic for so many Mexican dishes...Tortilla is a mexican flat bread which is their staple.. You can find this in every grocery store..but this is so easy to make from scratch and also you can store this fridge or freezer for  a long period of time... .


All Purpose Flour / Maida -2 cup
Salt -1 tsp
Baking powder-1 tsp
Oil-2 tblspn
Boiling water-as required


In a mixing bowl add flour,salt,baking powder and oil...Rub this together with your hands till mixed well.

Pour boiling water in this and using a wooden spoon mix together till it forms a dough..

Cover this with a damp cloth and set aside for 30 min.

After 30 min divide this into equal size balls and start rolling into a thin roti.

Heat a pan to the highest heat..The pan should be so hot before putting the tortilla in it.

Put the tortilla in the hot pan and cook for 30 sec.Turn it over and press it with a spatula..The tortilla will puff like a balloon.Remove this and put it in a plate.

Do exactly same with the rest of the dough..

You could enjoy right away or store in fridge and use within 2-3 days(you could freeze this upto a month).


Ur ingredients

Add salt to maida.

 Add some baking powder too..

 Drizzle some oil in..

 Rub with your hands...
 Boil water in a saucepan

 Pour that in the flour mixture...

 Make a dough out of this...

 Dough made...

 Divide into equal balls..

 Roll into thin roti...

 Cook it in a griddle...

 It will puff up like a balloon

  24. Hi Aarthi, You said we can freeze it up to a month. How do we freeze it? after cooking? and you said we can use within 2 to 3 days.. whats the difference?

  25. @shwetha shenoyif you are keeping it in fridge,Put it in air tight container and use, For freezing lay the tortilla between parchment sheets and put it in a ziploc bag and freeze. You can reheat it it microwave or on tawa

    Can I make the dough in the afternoon and then make the tortillas around 6pm for dinner.....

  29. @AnonymousU can keep it in fridge for 3 to 4 days. In freezer for many months, lay between sheets of parchment or foil

    Can I make the same way with wheat flour too?
    Or with half wheat and half all purpose flour?
