I have a friend who is a iyengar..She used to bring this curry with a lovely potato roast and do I need to give any explanations for this combo..It tasted awesome..
I think everyone is aware of iyengar recipes..They make each of their foods different from us.It always taste unique.
I definitely want to post this recipe in my blog.. Her mum was so kind enough to give me her recipe..
As soon as I got the recipe in hand I made it..Actually I made a huge batch which was enough for my perimma’s family as well as ours…We also gave some to my neighbours house..
I want you all to give this a try…I want give a tiny tip which she gave me,This morkulambu taste way better the next day..So hope you will try this and tell me how it came..
Straightaway you go to the step by step recipe with pictures..
Vendaikai / Ladysfinger / Okra-15 cut into pieces
Turmeric powder / Mangal podi-1 tsp
Coconut oil-2 tblspn
Thayir / Thick Unsour Curd / Yogurt -1 cup
Salt to taste
Toor Dal / Tuvaram paruppu-2 tsp
Urad Dal / Ulundam Paruppu-1 tsp
Channa Dal / Kadala Paruppu-1 tsp
Coconut oil-1 tblspn
Mustard seeds / Kaduku-1 tsp
Cumin seeds / Jeerakam-1 tsp
Curry leaves -1 spring
Soak all three dals for atleast 15 mins…Now take the dals in the blender and add in coconut and green chillies and make into a fine paste.Set this aside for a moment.
Now heat 2 tblspn of oil in a pan..Add in ladys finger in it..Fry this for 5 mins..
Add in turmeric powder and mix well..Pour in water and let it come to a boil..
Add in the ground masala and mix well..Simmer this for 10 mins..
Season with salt and mix well..Switch off the flame and let it cool a bit..
Now pour in curd and mix well..
Make seasoning by heating oil and crackling mustard,cumin and curry leaves..
Pour this over the gravy and mix well..
Serve hot with rice..
|Take all your ingrediants(I forgot to add turmeric powder in this list)|
|soak all your dals|
|take it in a blender|
|add in coconut|
|and green chillies|
|make into a fine paste|
|take okra in a colander and wash well|
|cut off the top heads|
|cut it into pieces|
|add in okra and fry|
|fry for few minutes|
|add in turmeric powder|
|and some water|
|cover and cook|
|untill the okra is cooked|
|add in the ground masala|
|season with salt|
|simmer it for a while|
|all done..switch off the flame|
|let it cool a bit before adding curd|
|Pour it over the curry|
