    Apple Beetroot Salad

This is one quick and healthy salad which i made few days back. It was very cooling and refreshing, i loved it so much. If you are on diet, you can have a bowl of this for lunch, it keeps you filling for a long time. This is a cooling and tasty salad.

    About this Recipe

A salad is a dish made up of mostly natural ingredients and at least one raw ingredient. They are frequently dressed and served at room temperature or chilled, though some can be served warm.

Apples are a highly nutritious fruit with numerous health benefits. They contain a lot of fibre and antioxidants. Eating them has been linked to a lower risk of a variety of chronic diseases, including diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. Apples may also help with weight loss and gut and brain health.

The taproot portion of a beet plant, commonly known as beets in North America, is known as beetroot in British English, and is also known as the table beet, garden beet, red beet, dinner beet, or golden beet.

    Who invented the salad?

Ancient Greeks and Romans gathered and layered raw vegetables, drizzling vinegar, oil, and herbs over top, to create the world's first salad (circa 1st century CE).

What is the history behind salad?

Salad is derived from the ancient Latin word sal which means salt. Salt was an important ingredient in dressing in ancient times. You might be surprised to learn that raw vegetables with dressing were popular among the ancient Romans and Greeks. The vegetables are typically dressed with vinegar, oil, herbs, and salt.

It is very recently i have started to make quite a bit of salads. Actually i am enjoying them a lot now. The combination of each ingredient makes them so tasty. And you can enjoy the real taste of the veggies or fruits in them.

    Ingredients for Apple Beetroot Salad

    • Beetroots - 1 peeled and cut into matchsticks
    • Apples - 2 large sliced thinly
    • Almonds or any nuts chopped as needed
    • Shallots or White Onion - 4 tblspn finely chopped
    • Lemon Juice - 2 tblspn
    • Sugar - 1 tsp
    • Salt to taste
    • Olive Oil - 3 tblspn

    Beetroots:

Beetroot has an earthy, slightly bitter flavour. While this isn't necessarily a bad thing, Martinez believes they work best when combined with bright, sweet, and fresh flavours.

    Apples :

Most apples are slightly sweet and slightly tart, but neither flavour dominates. Some of these apples will have a mild flavour, while others will have a strong flavour. That, as is customary, is dependent on the weather and harvest conditions.

    Shallots :

Shallots are a little sweeter than regular onions and have a more subtle flavour. They are good used in raw applications where you want an oniony flavour without too much punch, such as in salads and vinaigrettes, , or in slow roasted or braised dishes, where their sweetness can enhance a dish without watering it down.
