Candied peels are great in cakes or puddings. It is such a easy recipe to make using the peels of citrus fruits which we will normally throw away. You can make them a bunch and store them in fridge and use whenever needed.
Dulce De Leche
Cooking Time : 30 mins
Resting Time : 3 to 4 hours
Orange Peels from 4 oranges
Lemon Peels from 6 lemons
Sugar - 1 cup
Water - 1 cup + more
Caster Sugar - ¾ cup
Method:
Remove the peels from fruit, slice off as much white part from the peels. Slice into strips and set aside.
Take water in a sauce pan, add the peels in and cook for 2 mins. Drain it.
Now fill fresh water in the pan and add the peels back in and cook for 3 mins this remove the bitterness from it. Drain it.
Now take sugar and water in a sauce pan, bring it to a boil. Add the peels in and cook for 5 to 10 mins till it is done.
Now drain it and spread it in a parchment paper so it gets dry. Let it dry for 2 to 3 hours.
Now take it in a bowl, and sprinkle the top with some caster sugar. Toss well.
Spread it in parchment paper and let it dry for 1 hour or so.
Now store in a air tight container.
Take your citrus peels |
remove as much white part from the peels |
slice into strips |
bring lots of water to a boil |
add the peels in and cook for 2 mins |
drain it |
now cover the pot with fresh water and add peels back in |
cook for couple more mins and drain it |
now take sugar in a bowl |
cover with water |
add peels back in |
cook for 10 mins or so |
now it is done |
drain it in |
spread on some parchment paper and let it dry |
take it in a bowl |
sprinkle with caster sugar |
toss well |
store in a contianer in fridge |
Use in baking or as needed |
