    Potato Kurma Recipe

    About Potato Kurma

Potato kurma is a spicy coconut based curry made by sauteing onions, potatoes and tomatoes in oil. The curry is thickened with a coconut masala which is made by grinding coconut with cinnamon, fennel seeds, pori kadalai, khus khus, chillies and melon seeds. The curry taste great with appam, idiyappam and chapati.

Potato Kurma is a popular south indian dish which is famous in hotels in india.

I had a bunch of potatoes, so decided to use that fast in the recipe so nothing gets wasted and bad. This is the first recipe which i made and it turned out yummy. It tasted yummy with roti.

Potato kurma with roasted coconut and spices.

Amma makes this korma whenever she do appam for us. This is her signature dish which pairs excellent with that spongy appam. Because I have never seen her making this any other day other than those days.

How could I not add this in my blog. I was asking amma the recipe and one fine day amma made appam with curry and I clicked photos of that. If you are wondering about the recipe of appam, Its for my next post. So wait for it.

I cook lots of continental and western foods, but there is some kind of joy which clings to me when I prepare traditional foods from my house. Yes we have lots of tradition in our house, everything comes around food.

    Magic of roasting spices

I love to see the magic that happens in the kadai while I make or roast spices. While doing that a wonderful aroma fills the entire house and my little sister peaks her nose in the kitchen and realises “ok there is something special today”. So She always ask me “Akka what are you cooking today”. I always tell her “Ah..A special dish”.. But I never tell the name of that until the dish is over and photos are clicked.

Ok this is one of that kind of dish, here the spices are roasted and ground which gives an awesome flavour to this dish. So with no more delay, off you go to the step by step recipe with pictures.

Dottie..Thanks for your comment..Yes I added every part of the chillies in..If you wish you could deseed it and add..you can reduce the amount of chilli as per your taste.I

I made it little spicy for me..And also the spiciness depends upon the chilli which you use..Some are spicier and some are milder. You can adjust as per your taste.
