Kanda Poha Recipe – Onion Poha Recipe – Maharashtrian Kanda Pohe Recipe

Poha is one of my favourite, we make it atleast once a week, but mostly it is southindian way by adding coconut to it..But this recipe is new to me and it taste just yummy. I have had this poha quite a few times during our trip to north, i loved it for breakfast..So i tried it yesterday and it was delicious..So here i am with the post.

Preparation Time : 10 mins
Cooking Time : 25 to 30 mins
Serves : 3 to 4

Ingredients:

Poha / Aval / Flattened Rice – 2 cups
Oil – 1 tblspn
Onion – 1 large chopped finely
Green Chillies – 3 to 5 chopped finely
Peanuts – 1 tblspn
Urad dal / Ulundu Paruppu – 1 tsp
Mustard Seeds / Kaduku – 1 tsp
Asafoetida / Hing / Kaya Podi – 1/4 tsp
Curry leaves a sprig
Salt to taste
Turmeric Powder / Manjal Podi – 1/2 tsp + 1/2 tsp
Lemon Juice to taste
Coriander leaves a handful finely chopped
Water – 1/2 cup

Method:

Take poha in a bowl. Add in water, salt, 1/2 tsp turmeric, lemon juice and mix well. Set aside.

Now heat oil in a kadai. Add in peanuts and roast till golden. Add in mustard, urad dal, hing and mix well. Fry till it turns golden.

Add in onions, curry leaves and green chilli. Add in little salt and sugar along with turmeric. Mix well.

Now add in the poha and toss well. Once everything is heated up, add in coriander leaves and mix

Mix well and serve.

Pictorial:
Take all your ingredients
Take poha in a bowl
add little water over it
add little salt and turmeric powder
add in some lemon juice
mix well
Heat little oil and add peanuts
fry them for a min or so
add in mustard and urad dal
add in asafoetida
saute them for a min
add in onions and chillies
saute for couple of mins
add in salt and turmeric
mix well
add in poha
toss well
add in coriander leaves
give a good mix
done

    Hi, what poha have you used? Thick, medium or thin poha?
