We make this upma often for breakfast. I learned this from my grandma and love it so much. I make it for myself whenever i feel like doing it. This is a coconut upma recipe, little spicy one. But i make this plain poha upma and potato poha upma too.
Cooking Time : 10 mins
Serves : 2
Aval / Poha – 2 cups ( I used red rice poha)
Oil – 1 tblspn
Mustard Seeds / Kaduku – 1 tsp
Urad dal / Ulundu paruppu – 1 tsp
Onions – 1 medium size chopped finely
Curry Leaves – a sprig
Green Chilli – 1 chopped finely
Water – 1 cup
For Chutney:
Fresh Coconut – 1/2 cup grated
Dry Red Chillies – 3 to 4
Garlic – 2 cloves
Method:
Take chutney ingredients in a blender. Crush them coarsely by adding some water.
Take poha in a bowl, sprinkle some water and mix it well. Set aside for 5 mins. Now add in the ground coconut chutney and mix well.
Heat oil in a kadai. Add in mustard and urad dal. Let it fry for a min.
Add in onions, green chillies and curry leaves. Saute for couple of mins.
Add in the coconut poha mix and some salt. Fry this for 5 mins or so.
Serve hot.
