Aval Upma Recipe (Poha Upma)
We make this upma often for breakfast. I learned this from my grandma and love it so much. I make it for myself whenever i feel like doing it. This is a coconut upma recipe little spicy one. But i make this plain poha upma and potato poha upma too.

Ingredients for Aval Upma Recipe (Poha Upma)
- Aval / Poha - 2 cups ( I used red rice poha)
- Oil - 1 tbsp
- Mustard Seeds / Kaduku - 1 tsp
- Urad dal / Ulundu paruppu - 1 tsp
- Onions - 1 medium size chopped finely
- Curry Leaves - a sprig
- Green Chilli - 1 chopped finely
- Water - 1 cup
For Chutney:
- Fresh Coconut - ½ cup grated
- Dry Red Chillies - 3 to 4
- Garlic - 2 cloves
- Salt to taste
- Water - ¼ cup
How to make Aval Upma Recipe (Poha Upma)
- Take chutney ingredients in a blender. Crush them coarsely by adding some water.
- Take poha in a bowl, sprinkle some water and mix it well. Set aside for 5 mins. Now add in the ground coconut chutney and mix well.
- Heat oil in a kadai. Add in mustard and urad dal. Let it fry for a min.
- Add in onions, green chillies and curry leaves. Saute for couple of mins.
- Add in the coconut poha mix and some salt. Fry this for 5 mins or so.
- Serve hot.
