    KFC Style Popcorn Chicken

Popcorn chicken is my little one's favourite recipe. It turned out to be crispy and crunchy with whole lot of taste and flavour in it. I have already shared a recipe for popcorn chicken, this one is an updated version and it turned out to be way more delicious.

Today's recipe is going to be POPCORN CHICKEN. KFC's most famous recipe, I am going to change it to my taste and construct it so that we can enjoy it in home.

I thank one of my viewer for asking this recipe to make. If not I must have not done it. It turned out so crispy and juicy and moist and fluffy and crunchy and so on. I don't know how to explain the end result, it was so good. I didn't except the result to be this good. And this is one of the best fried chicken I have ever tasted.

    About Popcorn Chicken

Popcorn chicken is a dish consisting of small, bite-sized pieces of chicken that have been breaded and fried. The chicken is in the size of popcorn which indicates the name. The idea was originally developed by KFC but has since spread.

    KFC FRIED CHICKEN SECRET INGREDIENTS

    CHICKEN

Chicken has to be with skin on and bone in. The skin is what makes the chicken so crispy and moist. Also the bone in chicken turns out super juicy than boneless.

    DRY INGREDIENTS | FLOUR

The flour added in the chicken is plain flour and corn flour. Both the flour adds crispy texture to the chicken. The cornflour adds crunchy texture to the chicken.

    CORNFLAKES

This is my own addition to the chicken to make it super crispy. The chicken taste so crunchy with an addition of cornflakes. This is optional.

    SPICES FOR CHICKEN

Mixture of many spices and herbs are added for the kfc flavour. Spices like garlic powder, onion Powder, dried thyme, dried oregano, Dried Basil, Paprika, Black Pepper, Salt

    BINDING INGREDIENTS

Eggs and milk are used as binding for the chicken. The wet ingredients is what help the dry ingredients stick to the chicken.

    OIL

Use extra oil for frying the chicken. Deep frying is what recommended in this recipe. Use flavourless oil like canola, vegetable oil or refined oil.

    Version 1

    1. Take chicken, buttermilk and salt in a bowl. mix well and leave to marinate for 1 hour.
    2. Now take all the coating ingredients in a bowl, add the chicken in and toss well.
    3. Heat oil for deep frying. Drop chicken in and fry till crispy. Drain and serve.

    Version 2

    1. Make Marination and mix with chicken. Now take a shallow plate and add the flour, oregano, salt and pepper and mix well. Take egg and milk in a bowl and beat it slightly.Set this aside.
    2. Take cornflakes in a plastic bag and bash it with rolling pin till they are crushed. In another bowl take the ingredients given for the crusty coating along with crushed cornflakes and mix well. Set this aside.
    3. Now time for some dipping and dunking then deep fry till golden. Drain them in paper towel and serve with ketchup.

Hope you will give this a try and let me know how it turns out for you.

I modified it to my taste and added so many extra special things in it. The original recipe called for garlic powder, onion powder, some extra seasoning mix. I don't have those stuffs on hand. So I made it with the available ingredients.

The crucial part in this recipe is frying. In kfc they pressure fry these chicken. I don’t have those fancy things. So what I did was, I covered the pan in which they are frying with a tight fitting lid. This creates steam inside and the chicken is fried which gives more or less the same result.

Try to fry the chicken in medium heat so they don't get brown before the middle is cooked.

Also this KFC popcorn chicken has cornflakes and breadcrumbs.

Hi aarthi this is madhu, i am a pure vegetarian. i think we can make this dish with paneer and cornflour or maida mix instead of egg mix.
I think it would be useful for vegetarians like me.

@Stephen C...You can fill the oil little more than half of the pan which you are frying it..I will advice you to use a smaller sauce pan , so that you don't need lots of oil.

I love KFC. I don't know why I love it so much - maybe because they put crack in their food and it's chockfull of preservatives but I really do love their food. BUT I made a huge lifestyle change a year ago and I cut off all fast food, including my beloved KFC. I've been going through KFC withdrawal but now I can make KFC popcorn chicken right at home! Thank you for sharing such a wonderful recipe - you're a lifesaver!

@nanjil mahaThe outer coating must be too thick, so it has separated

Hi Arthi, I love this recipe. But the Indian KFC chicken are tastier than US KFC Chicken. Can i add any masala to it, so that it will be spicy and tasty? Suggest me some spices to add. Thanks
