Today's recipe is going to be POPCORN CHICKEN. KFC's most famous recipe, I have changed it to my taste and construct it so that we can enjoy it in home.

    About Popcorn Chicken Recipe

Popcorn chicken is made with bite-sized pieces of chicken that have been breaded and fried. The chicken is in the size of popcorn which indicates the name. The idea was originally developed by KFC but has since spread.

I thank one of my viewer for asking this recipe to make. If not I must have not done it. It turned out so crispy and juicy and moist and fluffy and crunchy and so on.

Don't know how to explain the end result, it was so good. I didn't except the result to be this good. And this is one of the best fried chicken I have ever tasted.

    Ingredients

    • Chicken - Use chicken that is boneless and skinless for making popcorn chicken.
    • Buttermilk - marinate the chicken in buttermilk helps with juicy texture.
    • Flour - The flour added in the chicken is plain flour. it helps with the crispy texture to the chicken.
    • Spices - Mixture of many spices and herbs are added for the kfc flavour. I used simple spices like chilli powder, pepper powder, garlic powder and oregano.
    • Oil - Use extra oil for frying the chicken. Deep frying is what recommended in this recipe. Use flavourless oil like canola, vegetable oil or refined oil.

    Step by Step Pictures

    Marinate Chicken

1)Take boneless chicken breast and cut into small pieces. Take it in a bowl.

2)Add in buttermilk and salt and mix well.

3)Leave this to marinate for 1 hour. This helps tenderize the chicken.

    Seasoned Flour

4)take plain flour in a bowl. We are going to make the seasoned flour.

5)Add in baking powder. This helps lighten the batter when fried.

6)Add in pepper powder, salt and oregano.

7)Add in paprika or chilli powder.

    8)Add in garlic powder.

9)Mix this well. This is your seasoned flour.

10)Remove the chicken from buttermilk marinate. Add the chicken into the flour.

11)Toss to coat with the seasoned flour.

12)Heat oil for deep frying. Drop the chicken into the hot oil and fry till golden brown and crispy.

    13)Serve.

@Stephen C...You can fill the oil little more than half of the pan which you are frying it..I will advice you to use a smaller sauce pan , so that you don't need lots of oil.

I love KFC. I don't know why I love it so much - maybe because they put crack in their food and it's chockfull of preservatives but I really do love their food. BUT I made a huge lifestyle change a year ago and I cut off all fast food, including my beloved KFC. I've been going through KFC withdrawal but now I can make KFC popcorn chicken right at home! Thank you for sharing such a wonderful recipe - you're a lifesaver!
