    Mango Salsa Recipe

    Mango salsa is a quick and easy fix for the summer heat because it is naturally cooling and refreshing. It is made with simple ingredients like ripe mangoes, chilli, coriander leaves, lemon juice and basic seasoning. It is an easy to make recipe and burst with flavours in every spoonful. Serve this mango salsa with nachos, chips, grilled dishes or even enjoy as a light snack.

    This is mango season and how can I not make a salsa because it is my favourite. I made this yesterday and I am in love with it for sure. It taste so delicious when chilled, i loved the freshness of the coriander, the tanginess of lemon and the little kick from chilli. This salsa is very similar to my mango cucumber salsa.

    What is a Salsa?

    Salsa is a popular Mexican recipe that is fresh, flavourful and easy to make. Salsa is a chunky sauce or salad made with vegetables or fruits mixed with herbs, spices and seasoning.

    Tomato, onion pepper, avocado are the most commonly used ingredients for salsa, but fruits like mango, pineapple can also be added for a tropical twist. Salsa is usually served as a side for with nachos, chips, tacos, grilled chicken and vegetables. 

    About Mango Salsa Recipe

    Mango salsa is one of the light, refreshing and easy to make salad, yet feels so indulgent. It is a perfect summer treat that is juicy and has a mild spice from the chillies. The sweetness of ripe mangoes are balanced with the tanginess of lemon juice, which makes every bite irresistible. A slight variation of this recipe is my Malaysian mango salad.

    This mango salsa is a versatile recipe that you can serve for your everyday meals or parties. You can pair it with spicy curries, rice, with nachos, chips, tacos, grilled chicken and vegetables or enjoy on its own as a refreshing snack for warm days. 

    One of the best things about this salsa is flexibility. You can adjust the spice according to your taste, and to boost the flavour sprinkle chaat masala that also works as a wonderful fusion.

    This sweet and spicy mango salsa will surely become a household favourite because the combination of ripe mangoes, tangy lemon juice and green chillies makes it impossible to resist.

    Once you try, you'll find yourself making it again and again. This is truly a crowd pleaser recipe and makes best use of fresh mangoes in the season.

    Ingredients

    Ripe mango : Use fresh and ripe mangoes as it is the star of this recipe. It acts as the body of the salsa and their natural sweetness makes every bite refreshing. You can use any variety of mango like alphonso, kesar or banganapalli of your choice. 

    Green chilli : Green chilli is added for its spice that beautifully blends with the sweetness of mango. You can swap with chilli flakes or chilli powder if preferred. 

    Coriander leaves : Coriander leaves add freshness and earthy aroma to the salsa. It instantly enhances the flavour and makes the dip more vibrant. 

    Salt : Salt balances the overall flavour and enhances the taste. 

    Sugar : Sugar balances the acidity and spice from the chillies and lemon juice. You can also substitute with jaggery, honey for a mild healthy version. 

    Lemon juice : Lemon juices added for its tangy taste that balances the sweetness of mango and make a refreshing salsa. 


    Step by Step Pictures

    1)take a ripe mango. Wash them well and pat them dry.

    2)Peel off the skin using a vegetable peeler.

    3)Cut off both cheeks from the mango. Slice the flesh around the seed of the mangoes.

    4)Now slice the mangoes lengthwise.

    5)Chop the mangoes pretty fine.

    6)Take the chopped mangoes in a bowl.

    6)Add in green chillies which is finely chopped.

    7)Add in chopped coriander leaves. You can use mint leaves too.

    8)Add in some lemon juice for refreshing taste.

    9)Season with some salt and some sugar for balance of taste.

    10)Toss it really well. Set aside for 30 minutes for the flavours to impart into the mangoes.

    11)Mango salsa ready to serve.


    Expert Tips

    • Choose mangoes that are fresh, ripe and firm. So, that they hold shape when mixed. 
    • Avoid using overripe mangoes, as they turn mushy. 
    • Adjust sugar and chilli quantity according to your preferred taste.
    • Sprinkle some chaat masala for added flavour.
    • Let the salsa rest in the refrigerator for at least an hour before serving. This allows the flavours to blend well. 
    • You can also add mint leaves for more refreshing and cooling salsa.

    Storage & Serving

    Store the leftover mango salsa in an airtight container and refrigerate for 1 to 2 days. Stir it before serving.  Serve this mango salsa with nachos, chips, tacos, grilled chicken and vegetables. 


    FAQ 

    Q. Can I make this ahead of time ? 

    Yes. You can make the salsa a few hours before serving. In fact, the resting time helps to blend the flavours beautifully and tastes even better. 

    Q. Can I skip green chilli ? 

    Absolutely ! You can skip the chilli or use mild chillies instead to suit your taste. You can also swap it with chilli flakes, chilli powder as an alternative option. 

    Q. My salsa looks watery. What to do ? 

    This happens when you use overripe or very juicy mangoes. To avoid this, serve the salsa immediately after mixing or use firm mangoes that hold their shape well. 

    Q. Can I make it with raw mango ?

    Yes you can raw mango to give a tangy twist to the salsa. Adjust the sugar quantity according to the tartness of mango.

    Ingredients
      

    • 1 large Ripe Mangoes
    • 1 no Green Chilli chopped finely
    • 2 tablespoon Coriander leaves finely chopped
    • 1 teaspoon Salt or to taste
    • ½ teaspoon Sugar
    • 1 tablespoon Lemon Juice

    Instructions
     

    • Wash and pat dry ripe mango. Peel off the skin using a vegetable peeler. take the mango in a cutting board and remove both cheeks from the mango. Chop mango into fine dice.
    • Take mangoes, green chillies, coriander leaves, lemon juice, salt, sugar in a bowl and toss well. Let it sit in fridge for 30 minutes for the flavors to mingle together.
    • Serve with chips or as side salad with roast meat.

    Notes

    • I like to use semi ripe mangoes so it holds its shape better when chopping and mixing together.
    • You can use finely chopped mint leaves for flavor.
    • Green chillies can be skipped if you prefer less spicy.
    • For Indian touch, you can add some roasted cumin powder and chaat masala.
