    Shahi Paneer Recipe

    Shahi means royal, a royal paneer dish with lots of cream, cashews, yogurt. It is pretty mild gravy which goes really well with rotis, specially naan.

    About Shahi Paneer

    Shahi paneer is an Indian subcontinent paneer delicacy made with a thick sauce of cream, tomatoes, and Indian spices. This meal is made by emulsifying tomatoes, onions, crushed cashews, clarified butter, and cream into a curry, then adding paneer
    cubes and a variety of spices. It originated in Mughlai cuisine (thus the term shahi in allusion to the royal title of Shahanshah in Mughal India).

    Shahi Paneer is indeed a very old and popular food of India. This version uses simple recipe and technique to make shahi paneer. This version of shahi paneer turns out super creamy and delicious.

    Shahi Paneer Ingredients

    Paneer - It is well known that paneer is an excellent source of protein. You can use homemade paneer or store bought paneer.

    Onions - onions is boiled before grinding to reduce the potent flavour and create creamy sauce.

    Tomatoes - tomatoes is pureed and added into the curry to make the sauce smooth and creamy.

    Cashews & Cream - these two ingredients adds creamy texture to shahi paneer. It adds malai like flavour and taste so rich.

    Spices - shahi paneer uses whole spices as well as few spice powders like chilli powder, garam masala powder.

    How to Make Shahi Paneer (Stepwise Pictures)

    take paneer
    you can cut them into whatever size you like
    cube them
     
    take them in a pan with hot water..set aside so it stay soft
     
    in a sauce pan, take water
    add all the ingredients
    cook them
    cool them and take in a blender
    puree till smooth
    heat oil in a kadai
    add whole spices
    let them sizzle
    add onion puree
    mix well
    cook till it starts to leave the sides
    add chilli and garam masala powder
    mix well
    whisk yogurt well
    Add it in
    add salt and sugar
    more water
    add paneer
    mix well
    simmer for few mins
    add cream
    coriander leaves
    mix well
    Serve

    Equipment

    • Cooking pot
    • Blender

    Ingredients

    For Tempering

    • 3 tbsp Oil or Ghee
    • 1 tsp Shahi Jeera
    • 1 piece Cinnamon
    • 2 pods Whole Cardamom crushed
    • 2 no Whole Cloves

    For Gravy

    • 200 grams Paneer cubed
    • 1 tbsp Kashmiri Chilli Powder
    • 2 tsp Garam Masala Powder
    • ¼ cup Yogurt | Curd thick and unsour
    • ¼ cup Cream
    • 2 tsp Salt or to taste
    • 2 tsp Sugar or to taste
    • 4 tbsp Coriander Leaves finely chopped

    For Boiling & Grinding

    • 2 large Onions peeled & chopped
    • 1 inch Ginger peeled & chopped
    • 6 cloves Garlic peeled & chopped
    • 15 no Cashews
    • 1 cup Water

    Instructions

    • Take cubed paneer in a bowl, add hot water over it and let it sit till needed.
    • In a pan, take onion and other ingredients given for grinding. Cook that for 10 mins. Now cool this and take it in a blender. Puree till smooth. Set aside.
    • Heat oil in a kadai. Add in whole spices and saute for a min. Add in pureed onion mix and cook till it thickens. Add in chilli and garam masala powder and give a good mix.
    • Pour whisked yogurt and mix well. Cook for few mins. Add in water and bring it to a boil. Add in drained paneer and simmer for few mins. Add in salt, sugar and cream to taste and mix well. Add in coriander leaves and mix well and serve.

      This is my 7 year old's favorite dish. I make it with out frying paneer since that's the way my son likes. I've been making it atleast once a week for him for the past 2 years, but just realized that I didn't thank you for the easy and tasty recipe. Thank you Aarthi. I have a doubt what is the difference between Shahi paneer and butter paneer masala ? Both are cooked in cashew gravy right ? Just a general clarification
