    About Rose Milk

Rose milk is a popular summer beverage made with milk, rose syrup and ice cream. You can easily buy readymade rose syrup in super markets. It is a combination of sugar, water, rose extract and artificial food colouring boiled until syrupy.

Making homemade rose syrup is so easy and cost efficient too. All you need is to boil sugar and water until single string consistency and add in your flavourings. Rose milk is an absolute favorite one among kids. Added bonus, you can make the syrup in bulk and store in fridge and use it whenever you want.

rose milk and rose syrup ingredients

    Sugar

Refined White Sugar is main ingredients in making rose milk. I don't recommend adding brown sugar in this recipe because it may affect the colour of the end product.

    Water

Typically I use 1 cup sugar and ½ cup water. This ratio makes the perfect simple syrup in less than 5 mins.

    Milk

Use full fat creamy whole milk in this recipe. Make sure you boil your milk and cool it completely in fridge. Because rose milk taste great when served cold.

    Rose Extract

I use clear rose extract in my rose milk. Start with ½ tsp and add more if needed.

    Pink Food Colour

Add preferably natural pink food colouring. You can easily find them in super market, health food store or online.

Why you will love this recipe?

Rose milk has lots of health benefits in them as well. It has a natural cooling tendency which is why it is consumed a lot during harsh summer season. Also rose helps to aid digestion and soothing to our body. If you are concerned about the artificial food colours, you can opt to choose natural food colours that are widely available in the market.

If you prefer to make it completely natural - No worries, I got you covered. A recipe for homemade rose syrup made with beetroot is included in this blog post. I came up with this beet milk which taste exactly like rose milk plus it is super healthy for your kids.

Expert Tips for Perfect Rose Milk

Milk - Use full fat milk which gives you creamy texture. Boil milk and then chill them in fridge.

Rose Syrup - add as much rose syrup as you prefer, the more syrup you use, the sweeter the drink will be.

Ice cream - a scoop of vanilla ice cream can be added over the rose milk. Rose milk with ice cream is a popular summer beverage option.

Ice cubes - If your milk is not chilled, adding ice cubes to rose milk when blending makes it creamy and thick.

    Variations you can try

Here is a collection of few more recipes which you can try with the classic rose milk. Few of my favorite ways to use rose milk is to make popsicles, milkshakes and sharbath.

Nungu rose milk (palmyra palm or ice apple rose milk)

Palmyra palm fruit has a natural jelly like texture. It is called as ice apple, palm fruit, nungu or jelly palm. Usually nungu which you buy from shops is sold with skins on, peel off the skin and chop it into small pieces which resembles "nata de coco". You can mix the chunks with chilled rose milk and enjoy. Tender coconut flesh can be mixed with rose milk too.

    Sabja Rose Milk

Sabja seeds has natural cooling benefits in them. Soak sabja seeds in cold water for 10 mins until it swells up. Mix sabja with rose milk and enjoy sabja rose milk cold. This is one of the popular beverage made with rose milk, you can use chia seeds instead of sabja.
