This reminds me about my grandma who used to make this for us..She used to have this with idlis and dosa too, but my favorite is with curd rice..
This is one of the instant powders which we usually have it at home and it is a must in our pantry..So I definitely want this recipe in my blog too..

So hope you like it and off you go to the step by step recipe with pictures..
Ingrediants:
Coconut-1 cup grated
Coriander seeds / Malli -5 tblspn
Toor Dal / Tuvaram Paruppu / Split Pigeon Peas -3 tblspn
Dry Red Chilli-6
Garlic -10 cloves
Tamarind-1 small lime size
Curry leaves – 1 spring
Salt to taste
Oil-1 tblspn
Method:
Heat 1 tsp of oil in a heavy bottom pan..Add in toor dal and fry till golden.Remove and set aside.
Heat 1 tsp of oil and add in coriander seeds..Fry till golden.Remove and set aside.
Now fry dry chillies in the kadai till golden.Remove and set aside.
Now add 1 tsp of oil and add in coconut and fry till it turns dark golden..Remove this and put it in a separate bowl.
Allow everything to cool down.
Take the fried chillies, coriander seeds and toor dal in a blender and make in to a powder.
Now add in garlic, tamarind, curry leaves and salt and powder it again.
Now add in fried coconut and make into a fine powder.
Let this cool down..Store this in air tight container.
Enjoy this with curd rice or dosa.
You can store this air tight container for upto 1 month..If you are storing it in refrigerator it last upto 6 months..
Pictorial:
Take all your ingrediants
Roast Toor dal in a tiny bit of oil
roast till golden
remove in a bowl
now roast coriander seeds
roast till golden
remove this in the same bowl
now roast dry red chilli
fry till golden
remove this in the same bowl
now start roasting coconut
can you see the coconut turn light golden
now its turning little darker
now it is completely golden and dark
remove this in a separate bowl
take the roasted spices in a blender
and powder it…Now add in curry leaves, tamarind, garlic and salt.
powder it
add in the fried coconut
and make into fine powder
remove this in a bowl and allow to cool down
you can form into balls like my grandma does..
and keep it in a air tight container
Done done..
Look at that
I want some curd rice with this
Looks awesome right
You don’t need to form balls…Just store in a container as it is..

I am fascinated by your recipes and ingredients. However, I have nowhere to get many of the ingredients. I hope to find a place (I relocated to Washington, DC several months ago) to get them. In the meantime I'll still be following you.

This looks yummy. The ingredients sound wonderful however, I'm not familiar with Toor Dal / Tuvaram Paruppu. What type of flavor does that have?
