நெல்லிக்காய் பச்சடி / Raw Nelikai Pachadi / Gooseberry Pachadi - Summer Special Recipes

Gooseberries are really good for you..In our house we buy it often and eat it raw, i have never cooked with it..But they are great cooked too..We can make rice or pachadi or anything with it. I saw this recipe in aval vikadan magazine and found that we had gooseberries lying in our fridge.So thought to try it out. These pachadi's are great with rice or any pulav. They are perfect cooler for this summer..

Gooseberry / Nelikai – 3 (seeds removed and grated)
Curd – 1 cup ( thick and unsour)
Salt to taste

For Masala:
Coconut – 3 tblspn
Cumin seeds / Jeerakam – 1 tsp
Green Chilli – 1

For Tempering:
Oil- 1 tblspn
Mustard seeds / Kaduku – 1 tsp
Dry Red chilli – 1
Curry leaves -1 spring


Grind the ingrediants given in the list with some water. Set this aside.

Take grated gooseberry in a bowl. Add the ground masala along with salt and curd.Mix well.

Heat oil and add the tempering ingrediants and sauté for 30 sec. Pour this over the pachadi and mix well.

Serve with rice or pulav.

take coconut, chilli and cumin in a a blender
and crush it
Take grated gooseberry in a bowl
add coconut
and mix well
add curd
and mix well
make tempering
and pour that in
mix well

  2. Wow..yummy Nellika curd chutney...i used to make it in different way..yours recipe is so nice...i will try soon....

  3. Are these large gooseberries amla fruit? They look very much like it. Here in the UK our gooseberries are smaller and oval in shape. They are sour enough to be used as a substitute for amla, but I don't think they are quite as high in vitamin C as amla.
