Nelikai Thayir Pachadi
Gooseberries are really good for you. In our house we buy it often and eat it raw, i have never cooked with it. But they are great cooked too..We can make rice or pachadi or anything with it. I saw this recipe in aval vikadan magazine and found that we had gooseberries lying in our fridge. So thought to try it out. These pachadi's are great with rice or any pulav. They are perfect cooler for this summer.
Ingredients for Nelikai Thayir Pachadi Recipe (Gooseberry raita recipe)
- Gooseberry / Nelikai – 3 (seeds removed and grated)
- Curd – 1 cup ( thick and unsour)
- Salt to taste
For Masala:
- Coconut – 3 tbsp
- Cumin seeds / Jeerakam – 1 tsp
- Green Chilli – 1
For Tempering:
- Oil- 1 tbsp
- Mustard seeds / Kaduku – 1 tsp
- Dry Red chilli – 1
- Curry leaves -1 spring
How to Make Nelikai Thayir Pachadi Recipe (Gooseberry raita recipe)
- Grind the ingredients given in the list with some water. Set this aside.
- Take grated gooseberry in a bowl.
- Add the ground masala along with salt and curd.Mix well.
- Heat oil and add the tempering ingredients and saute for 30 sec.
- Pour this over the pachadi and mix well.
- Serve with rice or pulav.

- 3 Gooseberry seeds removed and grated
- 1 cup Curd thick and unsour
- Salt to taste
- For Masala:

The Yogi Vegetarian
Are these large gooseberries amla fruit? They look very much like it. Here in the UK our gooseberries are smaller and oval in shape. They are sour enough to be used as a substitute for amla, but I don't think they are quite as high in vitamin C as amla.
