நெத்திலி மீன் அவியல் / Nethili Meen Avial ( Kerala Style) / Anchovies Cooked with Raw Mangoes & Spicy Coconut Masala

I am starting by wishing you all a very very happy independence day. I am really proud to be a INDIAN.

Straight away I am jumping into the recipe, without writing much about how I am feeling without hubby. Because……..Well you all know about my feelings right..

This is another recipe which my sweet hubby loves a lot..You all can see I am posting a whole lot of  hubby's favorite recipes this week. This is to show him how much I love and miss him.  BTW all this dishes I made this weekend and we all enjoyed it together.

This is such a easy recipe. It can be cooked in minutes, I mean it took me around 7 mins to cook this dish leaving the cleaning time of the fish. Anchovies are one cute little fish that takes very less time to clean. Unlike other fish you don't have to peel the skin or chop away the fins or something like that..This fish needs just pulling away the head and taking away the acky things..Don't forget to wash it in plenty of water.

This avial has so much lovely flavour going in there. It has raw mangoes in it, which gives this entire dish a perfect sourness and the spicyness comes from green chillies and you can get the flavour of coconut and curry leaves too. I got this recipe from my neighbour who is from kerala, so this is a typical keralan dish.

I hope you will love it and tell me how it turned out for you.

Ingredients:

Nethili Meen / Anchovies - 2 cup (approximately 40) cleaned
Sour Raw Mango - 6 pieces cut lengthwise thinly ( or use a tblspn of tamarind paste)
Curry leaves - 1 spring
Green Chilli - 3 slit
Salt to taste

For Grinding:
Coconut - 1/2 cup
Dry Red Chilli - 3-4
Shallots - 3-4
Coriander Powder / Malli Podi - 1 tblspn

For Tempering:
Coconut Oil - 2 tblspn
Curry leaves - 1 spring

Method:

Grind all the ingredients in the list to a rough puree. Don't make it into smooth paste.

Now take anchovies,mango,green chilli,curry leaves,salt in a kadai.

Add the ground masala in and mix once.

Cover with a lid and put it over heat.

Let it cook for 5-7 mins. Don't stir it, just shake the pan. If you stir it the fish will get broken.

Heat coconut oil and add in curry leaves.

Pour this tempering over the fish and mix well carefully.

Serve this with rice.
