Homemade Papaya Jam Recipe - No Preservatives

We buy a bunch of fruits every week, by the end of the week. I get to have some overly ripe of fruits lying in the fridge. Last week it was a papaya. We bought a beautiful papaya from the market and somehow totally forgot about it. It was in my fruit basket and when i got a peek into it, it was totally ripe. It was like so ripe, you cannot even peel them. First i thought of making this smoothie. But then i found that we are running out of jams. So decided to make some healthy homemade papaya jam that will last for a week for us..

As usual i dont like to add pectin or preservatives in my jam..I make it with just fruit puree, sugar and a dash of lemon juice. The lemon acts as a preservative and also i dont make a whole bunch of jam. I always make a small batch of jam and keep it in fridge, it will last me for a good couple of weeks or even a month. Hope you will try this out and let me know how it turns out for you..

Preparation Time : 5 mins
Cooking Time : 15 mins
Makes : 1 cup of jam

Ingredients:

Ripe Papaya - 2 cup of puree
Sugar - 1/4 cup or as needed
Lemon Juice - 1 tsp or to taste

Method:

Take papaya puree and sugar in a pan, mix well.

Heat on high heat till the mix gets thick.

Once it is thick, turn off the heat, and add in lemon juice and mix well.

Cool this down completely. Store this in a clean dry air tight container in fridge.

Make sandwiches and enjoy..

Notes:

1)Store this jam in a air tight jar in fridge, it will stay good for a month.

Pictorial:
As you can see my papaya fruit is very very ripe,
somehow i managed to peel and chop it up..
It is too ripe that you can pick it and eat it..
But it is great for making smoothies or this jam..

Take those overly ripe papaya in a blender

make it into a fine puree

Add it to a pan

Add sugar..this you can adjust as per your taste

mix them well

slowly the sugar will start to melt

keep stiring

it will thicken up faster

look how thick it has become..It took me under 10 mins or so

now turn off the heat and add a tsp of lemon juice..
You can add more tasting it

give a good mix

serve with toasted bread

Enjoy
