Homemade Pineapple Jam – No Preservatives

Making homemade jams are always my favorite things to try at home. I don’t like the thick, jelly like jam which you get in stores. They dont taste like fruit jams at all, I love the real fruits getting cooked as jam, they taste so fresh and clean.

One of my aunty makes jam from over ripes fruits which are collected at the bottom of the fruits bowls, like over riped bananas, apples, grapes and stuff like that. Those jam taste so heavenly when made as jam sandwiches and toasted with real butter.

One of my favorite fruit jam is pineapple. They smell so heavenly and taste so yum when made into jams. I have already made tomato jam and orange jam. They turned out so good that i couldn’t stop making a bottle of jam for myself. I love adding jams to my baking recipes too..Here are my experiments, Jam filled cupcakes and Cherry brownies.

Because of my love for homemade jams, i have tried a apple jam recipe yesterday and they were yum. Will post that soon.

Preparation Time : 15 mins
Cooking Time : 20 mins

Ingredients:

Pineapple – 1 medium size (yields 4 cups of pineapple chunks)
Sugar – 2 cup
Yellow Food Colouring – a pinch
Lemon Juice – 2 tblspn
Pineapple Essence – 1 tsp (optional)

Method:

Peel and chop pineapple cubes. Take them in a blender and make them into a coarse puree.

Now pour them in kadai, add in sugar and mix well.

Heat it up. Cook them for 10 to 15 mins or so till the sugar is dissolved and get little thick.

Now add in food colouring and mix well.

Switch off the flame and add in the lemon juice. Mix well.

Allow it to cool down completely.

Now take a clean dry glass jar and store this jam in it.

Enjoy with warm buttered toast or as a sandwich.

Note:

1)Use clean, dry, air tight bottle to store this jam.
2)Always use clean spoon while handling this.
3)This keeps well for two weeks when stored in clean, dry shelf. If you want to store for longer period of time, store this in fridge.

Pictorial:

Take a ripe pineapple
Cut the bottom and top
Cut it in half
Peel the skins off
Cut them in middle
Cube them
Now take all your other ingredients
Take them in a blender
Puree them
I like to make them into a little coarse
Pour the puree in a kadai
Add in sugar
Mix well
Cook them till the sugar is dissolved
Add a touch of food colouring
Cook til it gets a little thick
Switch off the flame, Squeeze in lemon juice
Mix well
This jam will be little semi solid
Allow to cool down
Store them in air tight clean bottle
Serve

You must have over cooked it. Add little more pineapple puree and bring it to a boil. Turn off the heat.
