Ultimate Orange Marmalade Recipe

I love making jams, not only it is healthy to make at home. But homemade jams taste really delicious than the store bought kind. I have never made marmalade before, when i saw few oranges lying in the fridge..I decided to make marmalade using that and it turned out delicious.

As usual i dont like to add pectin or preservatives in my jam..I make it with just fruit puree, sugar and a dash of lemon juice. The lemon acts as a preservative. In this marmalade the preservatives is sugar and lemon..

Now i have a whole jar of marmalade in my fridge. I will be using those in my baking and spreading over my buttered toast..YUM...Hope you will try this out and let me know how it turns out for you..

Preparation Time : 15 mins
Cooking Time : 45 mins

Oranges - 500 grams
Sugar - 1 kg
Lemon Juice - 3 tblspn
Water - 5 cups

Put a plate in freezer.

Wash oranges really well. Cut it in quarters, remove seeds and white membrane. Slice it thinly and set aside.

Take oranges in a pot, add in water and bring it to a boil. simmer it and cook till oranges is cooked completely. It will take around 30 mins or so..

Now add sugar in and mix well. boil this and cook for 10 to 15 mins keep stiring this. It will get thick.

Now take the plate from freezer, spoon the marmalade into it and bring it together using your hands, it will look like a jam or jelly.

Now add in lemon juice and mix well. Cool this down and store it in a clean jar.

You can store it for 10 to 15 days outside and for more than 4 to 5 months in fridge.

First Take a plate

Place it in freezer
Take three oranges and wash well

Cut the top and bottom off

Cut it like this

cut it in quarters

remove seeds and white membrane

Slice it very thinly

I did it little thick, if you dont want the skin the pop out in the marmalde then slice it very thinly using a mandoline or slicer

Take this in a pan

add in water

bring it to boil and simmer for 30 mins till the oranges are cooked

Now it is cooked

add in sugar

mix well

keep cooking it

Keep cooking, it will get thick and bubbly
now it is getting almost done

Now the marmalade has got thick..to check whether the consistency is right or not

 take the plate out

spoon the marmalade into the plate

use your hand, bring it together..it will look like a jam or jelly

now it has formed a jelly like..this means the consistency is right

Add in lemon juice

mix well

Marmalade done

I tasted it and it was delish..Now cool it.

Take a clean jar

Spoon the marmalade in

  1. Thank you for this wonderful sharing..

I got lost on the portion where you take out the frozen plate and spoon the marmalade and fix with your hand...can you help me understand the process and step. I am unclear from the detail steps and pictures shown...

  2. @WeeCkwhen u pour the syrup in the frozen plate, it will cool down instantly and show you the consistency. When u bring it together using your finger, it will form like a soft jelly or spreadable jam consistency. It will clearly show you the jam consistency.

  3. Hey.. Great recipe.. How long can you keep it?

  4. @Madhuru can keep it for more than 4 to5 months in fridge

  5. Hi Aarthi, I tried the marmalade and it turned out tasty. Thanks. But the problem is I think I over cooked the syrup. It has become thick and slightly crystallized. Please help soon. Any solutions?

  6. @Jyothi Rao Acharyaadd little orange juice or water and mix well...
