Cheema Chakka Poriyal Recipe - Bread Fruit Poriyal Recipe

I love cheema chakka or breadfruit, it is one of my favourite veggie. Amma makes a fantastic masala curry using that and so far i haven't shared any recipe using that in my blog. So few days back when i saw this veggie in my super mart i picked one and make two recipes using that. This is the first one and will share amma's recipe next.

Hope you will give this a try and let me know how it turns out for you..

Preparation Time : 10 mins
Cooking Time : 30 mins
Serves: 4

Cheema Chakka / Bread Fruit - 1 medium size peeled and cubed (around 4 cups)
Onion - 1 large sliced thinly
Salt to taste
Turmeric Powder ./ Manjal Podi - 1 tsp
Oil - 2 tblspn
Mustard Seeds / Kaduku - 1 tsp
Urad Dal / Ulundu Paruppu - 1 tsp
Curry Leaves - 2 sprigs
Chilli Powder - 2 tsp
Garam Masala Powder - 1 tsp
Water as needed

Peel breadfruit and cube them. Take them in a pot along with onions, salt, turmeric powder and 1 cup of water. Cover and cook on a low heat for 15 mins till it is cooked. Now the water would be reduced as well.

Now heat oil in a kadai. Add in mustard, urad dal and curry leaves. Let them sizzle.

Now add in the cooked bread fruit and salt and toss well. Fry this on medium heat till it is well caramelized.

Now add in chilli powder and garam masala powder and mix well.
Cook that for few more mins.

Now serve with rice and rasam.

I used a medium size bread fruit

cut the top off

peel the skin using a peeled

cut it in half

now slice them like this

cube them

i washed them well

In a pot, add in onions..Dont think that the pan is dirty, i have been roasting spices for another recipe..
So i used the same pot itself.

Add the breadfruit in

add 1 cup of water

add in salt

add turmeric powder

mix well

cover with a lid and put it on heat

cook till breadfruit is done

Heat oil in a kadai..add mustard and urad dal

add in curry leaves

add the cooked bread fruit

toss well

cook till it gets nicely golden

i added little more salt to taste

fry till it crisp up nicely

add in chilli powder and garam masala powder

toss well
