I came across in Pinterest I think. It looked so delicious that I wanted to try it immediately. Even though the recipe sounds complicated, It is very easy to make, a delicious crispy fried chicken burger, I enjoyed so much that I am gonna make it often.

Fried Chicken Burger Recipe also known as fried chicken sandwiches is a popular American fast food dish. It is super easy to recreate at home with minimal ingredients.
Chicken thighs are marinated in a buttermilk hot sauce and coated with a seasoned flour coating. Fry them in oil until crispy. For healthier alternative, you can bake or air fry the chicken in a 200 degree C oven for 25 to 30 minutes.
I used my homemade wheat buns and topped them with mayonnaise, ketchup, onions, tomatoes and lettuce. So wholesome and delicious.

Step by Step Pictures
Marination
1)Take boneless chicken breast or thigh on a cutting board. Cover with plastic wrap and use a rolling pin to slightly smash them to thin and even it out. This makes the chicken cooks faster and evenly.

2)The marination for this chicken is very simple. You need buttermilk or yogurt, add in lemon juice, red chilli sauce, minced garlic and salt. Take them in a bowl.

3)mix it well, taste and adjust the salt.

4)Add the chicken into the marination and mix well. Cover with plastic wrap and set aside to marinate overnight or at least 1 hour.

Seasoned Flour
5)Now lets make the seasoned flour for the chicken. Take plain flour in a bowl, add in cornstarch to it.

6) Add in all the seasoning to the flour. I used dried oregano,basil, salt, chilli powder, black pepper powder, garlic powder.

7)Mix this really well, this is your seasoning flour.

Coating Chicken
8)take your chicken pieces from marination.

9)Add it to the seasoned flour and coat on both sides really well.

10)Remove it and place it on a plate or wire rack for a minute.

Frying Chicken
11)Heat oil for deep frying, drop the chicken into the hot oil and fry for 4 to 6 minutes until the chicken is golden brown and cooked all the way through.

12)Now the chicken is fried. Strain it through a slotted spoon and set aside on some paper towel to remove excess oil.

Assembling Burger
13)Now to assemble the burger, take some toasted burger buns, spread a layer of mayo on the base of the bun. Layer with shredded lettuce, sliced onions, tomatoes. Place the fried chicken on top, drizzle with some tomato ketchup.Place another half of the toasted bun. Secure with a toothpick and enjoy.

Expert Tips
- You can use yogurt instead of buttermilk.
- Any brand hot sauce can be used like siracha or even sambal can be added.
- You can use your favorite seasoning mixes, herbs for the seasoned flour.
- Coat the chicken in the seasoned flour, press firmly so the flour sticks to the chicken, shake it once so you create the flakes on the chicken.
Serving & Storage
Marinated chicken can be stored in fridge upto 3 days. Once burger is assembled, serve immediately or wrap tightly in foil and enjoy later. Stays good for 3 to 4 hours.

For Chicken Marination
- 4 medium Boneless Chicken thighs or use boneless chicken breast
- 1 cup Buttermilk or Plain Yogurt
- 2 tablespoon Lemon Juice
- ¼ cup Red Chilli Sauce (Hot Sauce)
- 1 teaspoon Salt to taste
- 6 cloves Garlic peeled & minced
For Seasoned Flour
- 1 cup All Purpose Flour
- ½ cup Cornstarch
- 2 teaspoon Red Chilli Powder (paprika)
- 1 teaspoon Black Pepper Powder
- 1 teaspoon Dried Oregano
- 1 teaspoon Dried Parsley
- 1 tablespoon Garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon Salt to taste
For Assembling Burger
- 4 no Whole Wheat Buns
- 1 large Onions peeled & sliced into thin rounds
- 1 large Tomatoes slice thinly
- 1 cups Lettuce Shredded
- 4 tablespoon Mayonnaise
- 4 tbsp Tomato Ketchup
Instructions
- Preparing Chicken - Take boneless chicken breast or thigh in a cutting board. Cover with plastic wrap. Use a rolling pin or meat mallet to bash them lightly to even out the chicken. This way the chicken cooks faster and much more evenly.
- Chicken Marination - Take buttermilk or yogurt in a bowl. Add salt, garlic, lemon juice, red chilli sauce and mix well. Add chicken in this marination and mix well. Cover the bowl with a plastic wrap and place in fridge to marinate for atleast 2 hours or overnight.
- Seasoned Flour - Mix plain flour, cornstarch, seasonings, salt in a bowl. This is your seasoned flour.
- Coating Chicken - Take chicken from the fridge at least 1 hour before frying so it comes back to room temp. Take the chicken from marination. Coat them in the seasoning flour really well on both sides. Remove them and set aside in a wire rack or plate.
- Frying Chicken - Heat oil for deep frying, Once the oil gets hot, drop chicken in the hot oil and fry till golden and crispy. It will take around 5 to 8 minutes depending on the chicken you use. Once fried, remove the chicken from oil and strain on some paper towel to remove excess oil.
- Assemble Burger - Take wheat buns, slice them in half. Now toast the buns with oil or butter until golden and crispy. Take bottom half of the bun, place a serving plate. Spread 1 tablespoon of Mayonnaise. Top with ¼ cup of lettuce, few slices of onions and tomatoes. Place fried chicken on top of tomatoes. Spread the other top half of the bun with ketchup. Place over the fried chicken. Secure with a tooth pick. Serve immediately.
