    Kollu Soup Recipe with step by step pictures. Horse gram soup made with boiled horse gram ground and mixed with spices.

     

    Kollu Soup Recipe

    This is one soup  which i make often..It is very good for weight loss and reduces cholestrol. I have already shared horse gram rasam recipe. 

    Ingredients for Horse gram soup

    • Horse Gram / Kollu - ½ cup
    • Water - 3 cups
    • Oil - 1 tsp
    • Mustard Seeds - ½ tsp
    • Urad dal - ½ tsp
    • Asafoetida / Hing / Kaya Podi a pinch
    • Turmeric Powder - ½ tsp
    • Tamarind Pulp - 1 to 2 tblspn
    • Salt to taste
    • Coriander leaves a handful finely chopped

    For Grinding:

    • Black Pepper - 1 tsp
    • Cumin Seeds - 1 tsp
    • Curry leaves - 2 sprig

    How to Make Horse Gram Soup

    1. Roast horse gram in a dry pan and soak it for 30 mins. Now take it in a cooker, cover with water and cook for 8 to 10 whistle till it is cooked. Now drain it and add it to a blender. Puree till smooth, set aside. Reserve the cooking liquid as well.

    2. Take grinding ingredients in a blender and puree till smooth, set aside.

    3. Now heat oil in a pan, add in mustard, urad dal, asafoetida and let them sizzle. Add in turmeric powder and mix well.

    4. Add in the horse gram cooking water and the ground horse gram mix. Mix well. 

    5. Add in tamarind and salt and boil it for 5 mins or so.

    6. Add in the ground pepper cumin mix and mix well.

    7. Now simmer for few more mins.

    8. Add coriander leaves and mix well.

    9. Serve hot with rice.

    Kollu Soup Recipe with Step by Step 

     
    I dry roasted horse gram till you get nice aroma and i soaked it for 30 mins

     

    Drain and take it in a blender

     

    cover with water

     

    pressure cook till done

     

    now drain this

     

    take it in a blender

     

    puree till smooth

     

    set the puree and drained cooking liquid aside

     

    take pepper, cumin in a blender

     

    add curry leaves as well

     

    puree till smooth

     

    heat oil in a pan, add mustard and urad dal

     

    let them sizzle

     

    add asafoetida

     

    mix well

     

    add turmeric powder

     

    add in the cooking liquid

     

    horse gram puree

     

    mix well

     

    add salt

     

    add tamarind pulp

     

    boil this for 5 mins or so

     

    add in the ground masala

     

    simmer for few more mins

     

    add coriander leaves
