Wheat, Moong Dal & Almond Health Powder for Babies - Health Powder Mix for Babies

FOR MORE BABY FOOD RECIPES, CLICK HERE..

I have a sister from mumbai, she too is a new mom. Her pediatrician gave her a baby book. It has all stuffs related to babies and ofcourse recipes to feed baby. I got a copy for myself and when i was going through that book, i found this health powder recipe to be really interesting. So i tried it and little maha loved it to the core.

This makes a great filling and protein rich food for your babies because it has wheat and moongdal in it. And the addition of almonds makes it super healthy. I used wheat powder in this recipe, my mom buys whole wheat, wash it, dry it in sun and grind it in mill, i used that homemade powder for this recipe. If you can find good wheat powder you can use that. Or get whole wheat and do what my mom did.

Things to remember before making this powder:

1)Make sure you  roast all the stuff really well before grinding it.

2)Always make small batches, so the powder stays fresh always.

3)You can store the powder in a air tight container in fridge too. I always store homemade powders in fridge.

4)This porridge can be given for babies who are above 6 months.

5)This wheat powder doesn't cause constipation in babies.

6)The consistency of the porridge which you make totally depends on you. You can make it too runnier and pour it bottles and feed your baby or make it little thicker and feed your baby using a spoon.

7) I use panakarkandu or karupatti as sweetner. Karupatti strengthens your baby bones. Panakarkandu helps prevending cold for your babies. You can even mix up a small piece of both.

8)If you feed a good bowl of this for your baby. Your baby will sleep peacefully for a good 2 to 3 hours. It is that filling.

9)Instead of Almonds you can use cashews too or a mixture of both.

How to sterilize baby feeding bowls:

Start by sterilizing the bowls and spoons which you are going to feed your baby. Take the bowl and spoon in a large saucepan, cover it with water and bring them to a boil. Boil it rapidly for 5 mins. Now you can turn the heat off and leave them stay in the hot water till use.

How to make Wheat, Moongdal & Almond Porridge:

Ingredients:

Whole Wheat flour - 1 cup
Yellow Split Moong Dal / Pasi Paruppu - 1/2 cup
Almonds / Badam - 1/4 cup

Method:

Wash moong dal well in lots of water, let it drain in a sieve for 10 to 15 mins.

Heat a heavy bottom kadai. Add moong dal in it and roast it on a medium heat. The moisture will evaporate and the the dal will get golden. It will take around 10 to 15 mins. Once it reaches that stage remove to a plate.

Now in the same kadai roast almonds till they turn golden. It will take around 5 mins. Remove that to the same plate as well.

Now in the same kadai add in whole wheat flour and roast them on a very low heat till nice aroma comes from it. It will take around 5 mins.

Now take the moong dal and almonds in a blender and make it into a smooth powder. Add that powder to the wheat flour and mix well.

Spread them on a plate too cool down. You can seive them also.

Store this in a air tight container in fridge.

In your other health nut powder recipe (where you use cashew and almond) you suggest that we start that only at the 10th month. I was wondering if this one is safe at 8 months then. Please clarify.

Also when did you start giving yogurt and thoor dhal to Maha?
