Eggless Custard Powder Ice Cream Recipe - Vanilla Custard Ice Cream Recipe

I have mentioned in this blog so many times that we used to visit a place here in nagercoil which is quite famous for its icecream. The icecream is pretty cheap but it used to taste really delicious. I used to wonder how they make it. The icecream is yellow in colour, it is not like those creamiest vanilla icecream you get in stores. It is little fudgy and just perfect. 

I used to think that they make their icecream with eggs. So i tried it before but it was not exactly same. But few days back i tried a icecream using custard powder and when i scooped out the first scoop and tasted it, OMG it was exactly same. The taste, texture and look everything was same. I TOTALLY NAILED IT!

I added a bit of cream in it, but i am sure it will taste good without cream as well. I strongly recommend you to try this recipe. Because it is completely worth it. You will make this icecream over and over again for sure.

Preparation time : 10 mins
Cooking Time : 15 mins
Setting Time : 6 to 8 hours


Milk - 500 ml
Custard Powder - 3 tblspn
Sugar - 3/4 cup to 1 cup
Vanilla Essence - 1 tblspn
Fresh Cream - 1/4 cup (optional)


Take custard powder in a bowl, add little milk to it and mix and set aside.

Take sugar and milk in a sauce pan. Heat and bring it to a boil.

Now add in the custard powder mix in and cook till it thickens.

Now add in vanilla and mix well. Pour this in a container and cool it down.Now pop it in freezer and let it freeze for 5 to 6 hours.

Now scoop it in a blender, add cream and blend for a good 3 to 4 mins till it gets frothy.

Pour it back in the container and freeze again.

Now scoop and serve.


Take custard powder in a bowl. I am using vanilla flavoured custard powder

add little milk 

mix well

take milk in a sauce pan

add in sugar

Bring it to a boil
add in custard powder mix in

mix well

cook till it thickens...add in vanilla

mix well

pour it in a container

cover it

pop it in freezer

freeze till solid

now scoop it in a blender

add cream

blend for 3 to 4 mins

now pour it back in the container

freeze again

scoop and serve

  9. Hii..i tried this recipe today but the colour became almost brown on adding 1/2 tblspn of vanilla essence to 250ml of milk..but in Ur pictorial colour doesnt change at all on adding the the measurement u mentioned correct ..pls check it n reply..

    1. yes it is. it depends on the brand of vanilla u use. also my custard powder gave nice yellow colour so the vanilla didn't change the colour.
