Amla Candy Recipe - How to Make Gooseberry Candy at Home

Amla candy is easily available in supermarkets these days. This is a great way of having amla daily without going to buy it fresh. Making this at home is pretty easy and it has no preservatives in it.

Preparation Time : 10 mins
Soaking Time : 3 days
Drying Time : 2 to 3 days


Gooseberry / Amla - 25
Sugar - 2 cup powdered + 1/2 cup


Wash and steam gooseberry till they are cooker. Separate the segments and take it in a bowl.

Add in powdered sugar and mix well. Store this in fridge for 3 days. 

Drain the water and take the amla in a plate and sundry for 2 to 3 days till it is nicely dried up.

Now take it in a bowl, add some powdered sugar and mix well.

Store this in a dry jar.

You can enjoy this daily. This keeps well for a 2 weeks

take regular sugar in a blender

powder it finely..set aside

take big and firm amla

wash well and place it in a steamer and steam cook for 15 mins

now it cooked. cool down completely

separate the seeds from the flesh

take it in a bowl

add powdered sugar

mix well

now it is nicely combined

take it in a clean jar

store for 2 to 3 days..you can see lots of water has come out from the gooseberry

strain it
dont throw the strained liquid, add more cold water to it

squeeze some lemon juice and drink it

now spread the gooseberry in a plate

sundry for 2 days till it is all dried up


take it in a bowl

add some powdered sugar over it

toss well

store it in a air tight container


  1. Amlas are to be kept in zip lock bags in freezer for 3days. Then take it out and follow same procedure after amlas are at room temperature. No need of cooking it too. It comes out like market amla candy

  2. I tried this but there was fugus attack on the top layer of amla on the second day. What to do?

    1. you haven't dried it enough. you have to dry it completely.

    2. It happened in the previous step. While storing the amla with sugar for 3 days. I kept it in a air tight container.

    3. you have to keep it in fridge. did you do that
