This is the masala which i made using the peas when i made the black eyed peas rasam. I loved the combination of this curry with the rasam, i also made kurkuri bhindi also. And it was delicious. This curry goes well with rice, you can have it with chapati..

Preparation Time : 10 mins
Cooking Time : 30 mins + 20 mins for cooking peas
Serves : 4
Black Eyed Peas / Karamani / Lobia – 1 cup dried
Oil – 2 tblspn
Cumin Seeds / Jeerakam – 1 tsp
Fennel Seeds / Saunf / Sombu – 1 tsp
Cinnamon / Pattai – 2 cm piece
Onions – 1 large chopped finely
Green Chillies – 2 pricked with a knife
Chilli Powder – 2 tsp
Coriander Powder / Malli Podi – 1 tblspn
Turmeric Powder / Manjal Podi – 1 tsp
Cumin Powder / Jeera Podi – 1 tsp
Salt to taste
Sugar – 1 tsp
Tomato Puree – 1/2 cup ( I used storebought)
Milk – 1 cup
Coriander leaves – 3 tblspn finely chopped
Take black eyed peas in a bowl. Wash it well. Now cover it with water and soak it overnight. Next day drain the water, add it to pressure cooker, cover with fresh water and pressure cook for 3 whistle, simmer the flame and cook for 10 mins. Turn off the heat and let the steam go all by itself. Open the cooker and drain the liquid from the peas. Set aside.
Now heat oil in a kadai. Add in cumin, fennel, cinnamon and saute for a min.
Add in onions and green chillies along with salt and sugar. Saute till golden.
Add in ginger garlic paste and saute for a min.
Add in all spice powders and mix well.
Add in tomato puree and cook till oil separates from it.
Add in the cooked peas and mix well. Mix for 3 to 4 mins.
Add in the milk and mix well. Simmer for 5 mins or so.
Turn off the heat and add in coriander leaves and serve.

|crackle it for a min|
|add in onions and green chillies|
|add in some salt and sugar|
|saute till golden|
|add in ginger garlic paste|
|saute for a min|
|add in spice powders|
|cook raw smell leaves away|
|add in some tomato puree|
|cook till oil leave the sides of the pan|
|add in cooked black eyed peas|
|pour in some milk|
|mix well and simmer for few mins|
|Simmer for few mins|
