Maha has started her 6th month. She is kind off feeling bored with Ragi porridge, so i was thinking for a alternate for that which is tasty and at the same time filling. Amma told to give raw banana powder porridge. We bought firm big raw plantain from the market yesterday, now it is drying in the sun. I think that powder will be ready within couple of days. Dont worry will share that recipe soon.

One alternate done. I have heard that oats are really a good food to introduce your baby when is has crossed her 6 month. Oats are a very healthy grain and makes a great first food for your babies. So i decided to try that and consulted with my ped. He told that if your baby eats it you can give it. Few days back, i decided to make oats porridge, to make it more healthy and more tasty i added some apples in it. I added some clean cinnamon powder which i bought during my last visit to chennai in nuts & spices shop. I added a touch of it to see whether maha likes it. To my surprise she loved it. Cinnamon not only gives a lovely aroma to the porridge, it also helps in digestion.

After my success in this porridge with maha, yesterday i made the same porridge with pear and added some cardamom powder to it. She loved it too. I recommend you to add some spices to your baby food that makes the food more aromatic and your baby will love that, i think. SO SPICE UP YOUR BABY FOODS..They are really good for your babies...

You can use use any of your those food makers which are made to make baby foods. Are you looking for baby food makers. Then here is the link for you.

    Things to remember:

1)I used instant oats, since that is the only oats available in my place. If you can get steel cut oats, then they are highly recommended.

2)You could add any fruits in this porridge which your baby loves.

3)Adding cinnamon is optional. You can leave it or simply add any other spices like cardamom,

    4) If you are afraid, whether oats / oatmeal cause constipation in babies. In my opinion and experience, oats / oatmeal wont cause constipation.

5)Puree the oats porridge finely or to the texture you like to feed your baby.

6)If your apples are too sweet and you find your porridge to be sweet enough. Then dont add any sugar.

    7) I am not feeding oats daily to maha. I give ragi porridge one day, the next day i feed raw banana powder porridge(recipe soon), then the next day i give her oats porridge. So she doesn't feel bored with the same food.

8)I recommend you to start oatmeal on 6th month of your baby.

How to introduce solid food to your baby:

    Read this

How to sterilize baby feeding bowls:

    Start
by sterilizing the bowls and spoons which you are going to feed your
baby. Take the bowl and spoon in a large saucepan, cover it with water
and bring them to a boil. Boil it rapidly for 5 mins. Now you can turn
the heat off and leave them stay in the hot water till use.

    How to make porridge:

    Ingredients:

    Oats - 1.5 tblspn
    Apple - ½ a big apple
    Cinnamon Powder - ¼ tsp
Water - ½ cup or adjust

    Method:

Start by peeling and chopping ½ a apple into small pieces.

Take a clean sauce pan, in which you cook your babies food. Add oats, chopped apple, cinnamon and clean water in it.

Put the saucepan on stove and cook it for 3 to 4 mins on a low flame till the oats is completely cooked.

Now take it off the stove and let it cool a bit. Pour the whole mix in a blender and make into a smooth puree.

Pour the porridge on to clean sterlized bowls and feed your baby. You
can pour this into feeding bottle and feed your baby. I cut a bigger
hole in my feeding bottle nipple and feed my baby, this way it is easy
    and convenient.

Why cinnamon for a six month old? I'm a mom of three Girls... eldest is four and my baby is four months... we started with ragi... then wheat... then banana, then oats, suji... for the veggie diet we had 1 carrot + 1/2 potato or 1/2 apple combined, pressure cooked and mashed... never heard of introducing flavours such as cardamom , cinnamon etc into baby diet. Also an aunt of mine who is a doc always suggests to keep the baby simple tastes, I.e as much as possible without added sweet salt etc, so that they don't become fussy eaters... hope u got my point... again, if it's difficult to get banana powder, give her ripe banana cokked and mashed withe center black thing removed... as much as possible btry not to 7ded the blender for mashing her food and get her to taste whatever you eat... you will have soon have a happy toddler at at home and a very fuss free mommyhood.. 🙂 god bless 🙂

@Tess Boby Introducing flavours as early as 6 months is a good idea. Spices like cinnamon has many good medicinal qualities and vital nutrients that will nourish the baby. It's not just about flavours. It's healthy too. Also when variety of flavours are introduced at early stage, they don't become fussy eater. They will love all types of food. Also if you breast feed the baby, probably your baby have already had a hint of taste of all the flavorful foods that you consumed. It's important to spice it up a lil. But remember to introduce in very tiny quantities. Cheers !

      Dear Arthi,
Congrats on your blog and I appreciate your efforts in serving variety dishes for your baby and sharing the same for moms like me. I find your blog very handy for ideas. Thank you. But I have a few points which I would like you to consider.

Gynaes and paeds recommend serving babies, food with natural taste. Until one year, adding a pinch of salt, sugar and other spices is ok but not as much as spoons full. Too much salt can damage their kidneys and lots of sweet make them difficult in the longer run to eat any food that is not sweetened. This further leads to health issues such as early blood sugar, obesity and oral problems. Consuming dishes with no or very less spice won't be difficult for babies cox they are not used to sweet and salt like adults.

Doctors recommend exclusive breastfeed until six months and any other food such as dhal water is not adviced.

Almonds and cashews should be avoided until one year or added only in moderation after 12 months.

I request you to cross check my points with a doctor and alter your recipes, should you find them approved.

I know our moms and elders grew us up this way according to the knowledge passed on by their older generations and never had an option or wish to check with medical professionals but as science and medicine has advanced and has given us avenues to get better knowledge for better health, it has become important to shed off wrong practises and embrace right ones.

I hope you don't mind me saying this because information and recommendations we make over social media has greater impact and your blog is looked up and refered by many fellow moms for their babies and hence you have a greater responsibility on your shoulder to cater right advice.

My best wishes to keep up the good work.

      Thank you and best regards.

The teat of the baby bottle feeding controls the number of milk that your baby gets. whereas there square measure teats that solely let in a very touch of milk into your baby's mouth, it's vital for you to recollect that it might still be over what your baby gets from breastfeeding see more information.
