Sathu Mavu Mix for Babies / Health Mix Powder for Babies / Chathu Mavu Recipe for Babies / Homemade Health Mix Powder Recipe

FOR MORE BABY FOOD RECIPES, CLICK HERE..

I am getting lots of questions from my viewers asking where do i buy this and that for my baby. I am telling there are few baby sites which i trust to buy the best baby products, they are firstcry & babyoye. they have almost all the stuffs which you need for a baby. I mostly buy diapers in bulk from them. They even have nice collection of baby clothes and dresses. Love them When i purchase online i manage to get good deals on the things because of the coupon sites which i available. One of the site which i visit often is couponzguru. You got to visit their sites to get some amazing coupon codes before you shop online..

Now coming back to the recipe...This is a super duper health mix for your baby. You could buy decent health powder mix from shops. But i love to make it myself for my baby, because you get to know what goes into them and you can customize it as per your baby needs.

I added rice and pulses in my health mix. So i feed this porridge for my baby for lunch instead of giving rice khichdi. I made two versions of this powder, one savoury and one sweet.

For making porridge out of it:

you can mix couple of tblspn of this powder with some water and cook it for 10 mins on a very low flame till the rice and dals are cooked. Then you can add some sweetner to sweet one and salt in the savoury one..It is that simple.

How to sterilize baby feeding bowls:

Start by sterilizing the bowls and spoons which you are going to feed your baby. Take the bowl and spoon in a large saucepan, cover it with water and bring them to a boil. Boil it rapidly for 5 mins. Now you can turn the heat off and leave them stay in the hot water till use.

Preparation Time : 10 mins
Cooking Time : 1 hour

Ingredients:

Rice - 1.5 cup ( I used cooking rice, ponni brand)
Barley - 1 cup
Roasted Gram Dal / Pori Kadalai / Pottu Kadalai - 1 cup
Whole Black Urad Dal - 1 cup
Green Gram Dal - 1 cup
Yellow Moong Dal / Pasi Paruppu - 1/2 cup
Masoor Dal - 1/2 cup
Broken Wheat / Cracked Wheat / Dalia - 1 cup
Cashew - 1/2 cup
Badam / Almond - 1/2 cup
Cumin Seeds / Jeerakam - 1 tsp
Ajwain Seeds / Omam - 1/2 tsp
Cardamom / Yelakai - 10 pods (If using this, leave ajwain and cumin)

Method:

Take urad dal and green gram in a bowl and wash them well, drain and add to a dry pan and roast till it turns golden brown and dry. Remove to a plate.

Take masoor dal and yellow moongdal in a bowl and wash them well, drain and add to a dry pan and roast till it turns golden brown and dry. Remove to the same plate.

Take rice and barley in a bowl and wash them well, drain and add to a dry pan and roast till it turns golden brown and dry. Remove to the same plate.

Roast roasted gram dal till golden and remove to the same plate.

Roast dalia till golden and remove to the same plate.

Roast cashews and almonds till golden and remove to the same plate.

Roast cumin and ajwain till golden and remove to the same plate. If you are making a sweet one, leave ajwain and cumin and add cardamom to it.

I made two version, so i took half of the mix and added cardamom to one and roasted cumin and ajwain in another. Now grind them in a mixer and sieve it.

Store it a air tight container.

Pictorial:
Take all your ingredients

Take green gram and urad dal in a bowl

roast some nuts, you can add some badam too

When it turns little golden

If you want to make sweet porridge,
add cardamom instead of cumin and ajwain

Take the savoury version in blender

Add them to a sifter

all sifted

  40. Urad dal is normally tough for digestion. Won't it be heavy for babies. I read someone suggesting corn. Now corn is the worst grain . The digestive enzyme for it is in saliva only. If saliva is not mixed well with corn flour or grains there's no possibility of it getting digested in guts

    ReplyDelete
  41. @Paresh Patelit is full of proteins, since we are giving just a tsp or tblspn , it will digest easily

    ReplyDelete
  42. hi aarthi healthy mix s very nice

  55. Hi.. I am a big fan of ur recipes and this blog is really helpful ..
I had one doubt.. While making this mix u say that u washed the pulses drain the water and then added them hot PAN..
Is it necessary that the grains be dried before adding them to the PAN...
Should I keep it in the sun to dry?
    Thanks in advance
    Shanthini

  57. Hi, I gave this to my 10 month old baby for the first time (in the afternoon), she quite liked it but had loose motions in the evening, could it because the grains were not dried well or is it necessary to sprout or soak some grains like moong and urad before drying and roasting ? Should I continue giving or just soak the mix in water for about half an hour and then start cooking it ? Please suggest. Thanks
