    Pancake Ingredients

    pancakes ingredients

    Plain Flour

I used plain flour in making this basic pancakes. Instead of plain flour you can use ½ cup wheat flour and  ½ cup of maida or use 1 cup of whole wheat flour. Using completely whole wheat flour will make the pancakes texture change a bit but still it will taste great.

    Baking powder

I used 2 tsp of baking powder for every 1 cup of plain flour which results in perfect soft pancakes. Changing the measurement will affect the texture. Baking powder cannot be substituted with baking soda. Both are entirely different.

    Milk

Use full fat whole milk. Milk along with egg and baking powder will give you soft pancakes. For dairy free option, you can use almond milk, soy milk.

    Egg

Egg is essential in making pancakes soft and light. If you are looking for an eggless option, check my eggless pancakes recipe. I add ½ tsp of vanilla extract in my pancakes which are completely optional. Vanilla and cinnamon powder will improve the flavor of pancakes

    Sugar

For pancakes you don’t need to use too much sugar. Since we will be serving pancakes with fruits, honey, or syrup.

    Melted Butter

I add melted butter or oil into the pancake batter. This is my secret touch for making the best pancakes with even colour on top. I don’t add any fat to the pan when making pancakes. Using melted butter enhances the flavor of the pancakes.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Pancake Batter Consistency

    pancake batter

One of the many doubts you must have regarding pancake batter is about the consistency. Here is your Answer!

For thicker batter use ¾ cup milk, makes batter thicker, which prevents the batter spreading resulting in thick, fluffy pancakes.

Pourable batter will make pancakes soft and slightly thinner which I prefer.

Which type of pan is best for pancakes?

pancakes cooked on a cast iron pan

Personally I prefer using cast iron pan over non stick pans for making pancakes. Cast iron pan heats evenly and retains its heat longer which results in even golden colour on pancakes. The only important thing you have to remember is not to add oil or butter into the pan, instead mix your fat in the pancake batter.

How to Make Best Homemade Pancakes

    Pancake batter

Take egg in a mixing bowl. Add sugar, vanilla extract, milk and use a whisk to combine. Now add in the flour, salt, baking powder. For pancakes you have to use little extra baking powder for fluffy texture. Mix the batter till smooth. Don’t over the batter. Mix the melted butter into the pancake batter. Batter is done.

    Cooking pancakes

Now heat a pan. You can use nonstick pan or cast-iron pan for making pancakes. Heat the pan on medium high heat. Once the pan is hot, pour ladleful of batter into the pan and cook on medium heat till you see bubbles forming on top. Once you see bubbles on the pancakes, you can flip the pancakes and cook for few more seconds.

    Serving pancakes

Remove the pancakes to a serving plate, top with berries or any fruits of choice. Drizzle with honey or maple syrup and enjoy.

    Pro Tips for Pancakes

    All about pancake batter

making a perfect pancake batter is as simple as 1-2-3. Dump all your ingredients in one mixing bowl and combine. That's it. Once the batter is mixed well, pour in melted butter. For making pancakes you don’t add oil or butter in the pan instead you mix it into the batter. Mix the melted butter into the pancake batter will give you even coloured, golden pancakes.

Instant Pancake Mix is all your Want

For busy mornings, have this homemade pancake mix handy. This pancake mix is a keeper recipe because it works with both eggs and without eggs as well.
