    About Baked Beans Recipe

Baked beans is one of the comfort food of the British people. I have tried baked beans before but I'm not a fan of the canned baked beans. So I wanted to make my own baked beans with a touch of Indian flavours. Traditionally baked beans is made using great Northern beans or cannelini beans. But I managed to use black eyed peas which is much more affordable in India.

Traditional baked beans has bacon or pork added but I skipped that and made it entirely vegetarian. I used Indian spices like chilli powder, turmeric powder and cumin powder to give the smoky taste.

Baked beans are very easy to make and it's great to serve with some toast or rice.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Which beans are used for baked beans?

Navy beans, also known as Haricot Beans, are the beans used in commercially produced canned baked beans. They are white beans that are slightly smaller than Cannellini beans. However, any small to medium beans will work just fine here.

What can I add to canned beans for flavor?

You can add whatever you fancy to your beans. Indian spices can be added to give it a spicy kick. Oregano, butter, garlic can be added. Fresh herbs adds a nice freshness to beans.

What can I put in baked beans to make them taste better?

I personally prefer to tadka of indian spices and herbs in my canned baked beans. Heat oil, add garlic, onions, ginger, tomatoes, peppers. Some cumin powder, coriander powder, chilli powder can use used too.

    Sometimes you can add

    1. Bacon.
    2. Onion.
    3. Maple syrup.
    4. Spicy mustard.
    5. sausage.
    6. Cilantro
    7. Lemon juice

What is the sauce in baked beans made of?

American baked beans (also called Boston baked beans) are made with molasses and pork salt (or bacon), and they're slow-cooked in the oven. English-style baked beans (Heinz baked beans being the most famous) are more savory and made with a tomato sauce base.
