I adore french toast. They are my all time favourite, sweet or savoury both are my favourite.  This is a special french toast which can be served on any special day.

About French Toast (Egg & Eggless)

French Toast is easy to whip up on busy mornings when you don't have much time on hand. Even that simple french toast can be made different ways.

All of them taste fantastic. I have shared versions and variations of making french toast in this blog post.

Making french toast requires minimum ingredients like bread, eggs, milk, cinnamon, vanilla.

I used custard powder for my french toast. If you don't have custard powder use one egg yolk. Soak the bread in the custard longer than usual, so the bread absorbs all the custard.

I would suggest you to allow the bread soak up the custard really well and also fry the french toast on a low to medium heat till it is cooked in the inside as well as outside.

    Best French Toast Recipe

Over the years of making french toast. I have learned that few tips and tricks. French toast is supposed to have denser and fluffier texture which is achieved by adding few egg yolks in the custard.

Before I used to add few egg yolks while preparing the custard. But now I use a teaspoon of custard powder which does the trick.

Bread plays an important role in french toast. I used white bread in this recipe which couple days old. Use thick slices of brioche, challah or texas bread slices. Use slightly stale bread for best result. The key point is to use thick slices of bread.

If you don't have thick cut bread slices. Use two bread slices together and dip them in the custard and cook. This makes the bread stick together and create a thick slice of bread.

Make sure you cook french toast in plenty of butter. butter makes everything better. Cook the french toast low and slow so it gets cooked in the center properly.

    Ingredients

    • Bread - I used white bread, Use two days old bread or slightly stale bread for making french toast which absorbs the custard better which results in the best french toast.
    • Egg - I used one egg for making this french toast.
    • Milk - use whole milk for making the custard.
    • Custard powder - a teaspoon fo custard powder make the custard rich in texture.
    • Flavourings - I used cinnamon and vanilla extract to flavour the custard.
    • Sugar - a small amount of sugar is added in the custard. You can use maple syrup or honey instead of sugar.
    • Salt - a pinch of salt enhances the taste.
    • Butter - use butter to cook the french toast.

    Step by Step Pictures

    Make Topping

1)take chopped strawberries, blueberries, honey, vanilla extract in a bowl and mix it well. Set aside so the berries get syrupt.

    Make Custard

    2) In a shallow bowl. Take custard powder, sugar, salt and ground cinnamon in a bowl.

Tip: If you don't have the custard powder, add in one egg yolk. If you don't like cinnamon flavor you can simply skip this.

3)Pour in milk and mix well till there is no lumps formed. Mix well so the custard powder is mixed lump free.

4)Now add in egg into the milk.

5)Add in vanilla extract. Vanilla adds a floral aroma to the french toast which is strongly recommended.

6)Mix this together to combine. This is your custard.

    Soaking Bread

7)Place bread slices on top. The bread will soak all the custard mixture.

8)Flip over and let it soak other side too.

    Cooking French Toast

9)Melt some butter in a pan.

10)Place the bread and cook on a very low heat for at least 2 minutes.
