I'll share a short story on how I got introduced to figs : During my pregnancy, the doctor advised me to include figs in my diet. But in my place we don't find any fresh figs. So, dad went and bought me a box of dried figs. When I soaked and consumed it, I didn't like it personally.
So, I started to look for an easy way to consume these figs, then I found this fig milkshake recipe. Just blended the soaked dried figs along with soaked nuts and chilled milk. How easy and tasty, isn't it ? From that onwards I started drinking this regularly throughout my pregnancy journey to maintain my iron levels.

This has become my all time favourite milkshake and a family favourite too..I have become quite famous for this milkshakes. It is so frothy and so creamy without ice cream. I loved the taste of fresh figs just coming through this. Great for breakfast or a light lunch.

Ingredients

Milk : Use full fat cream milk. The milk should be cold enough to achieve the frothy consistency. You can also substitute with other milk like oat milk, almond milk or coconut milk.
Sweetener : I have used sugar for the sweetness. You can add any sweetener of your choice like honey, maple syrup, palm jaggery, coconut sugar.

Step by Step Pictures
1)Take fresh figs in a blender. Make sure to choose ripe figs which adds sweetness.

2)Add in sugar. You can use honey or maple syrup.

3)Pour in milk into the blender. You can use almond milk, soy milk.

4)Blend till creamy.

5)Pour into serving glass.

6)Add a scoop of ice cream if you want. Serve immediately.

- Adjust the sugar quantity based on the sweetness of figs.
- Add ice cubes or ice cream for frothy, smoothie-like consistency.
- If you want, strain the milkshake to remove any grainy seeds and serve it.
- Add a ripe banana while blending for added taste.
Storage & Serving
The fig milkshake can be chilled in the refrigerator for 1 hour. But it is not advisable to store it for a longer time.
It is best to serve the fig milkshake immediately along with a scoop of ice cream, chopped nuts or with fig jam on top.

Yes, absolutely ! The recipe works with fresh, frozen or dried figs. You can add any of these based on the availability. If you're using dried figs, then soak them for at least 30 minutes in warm water or milk before blending.
Q.How to make it dairy free ?
To make it dairy free, use any milk like soy milk, almond milk, coconut milk, oat milk or even greek yogurt to make it as smoothie.
Q.Can I make it ahead of time ?
Well, it is best to enjoy the milkshake fresh. But you can store it in the refrigerator for ½ to 1 day. Shake well before consuming.
Variations
Fig smoothie bowl : Pour the blended fig milkshake into a bowl. Top it off with nuts like pumpkin seeds, chia seeds, flak seeds, walnuts, almonds and shredded coconut. Also add some fruits like banana, peaches. It makes a wholesome meal for busy morning days.
Fig jam : Fresh figs are only available in season for a short term, so this fig jam recipe is an easy way to preserve them. The recipe is so simple and can be made in less than 10 minutes. It can be enjoyed along with toast, sandwich and dessert platter.
Fig walnut milkshake : In a blender add soaked walnut, dates, fig, milk and sweetener. Grind into smooth consistency. It will be so filling and perfect for summer.
