Cornflour halwa needs just minimum ingredients, it is chewy and taste delicious just like my strawberry custard powder halwa and kasi halwa . Easy to make halwa in under 15 minutes. I have shared a version made in microwave in less than 15 minutes."

    Corn flour halwa is also known as karachi halwa or bombay halwa. In this post I have shared the recipe fo this halwa made on stove top and in microwave.

    Corn flour halwa is a very popular sweet of india. It is usually served during special occasion or festive occasions like diwali.

    About Corn flour Halwa

    Corn flour halwa is also called as karachi halwa is a popular sweet around north india. It is a delicious and easy to make sweet to make for diwali. This particular halwa is jelly like texture which will be popular with kids.

    You need corn flour, sugar, ghee, water, nuts and cardamom powder to make this sweet. Halwa is made using basic ingredients to create a delicious diwali sweet.

    You could either make this halwa in a pan on stove top or take the easy route and cook in microwave. I prefer cooking it on stove top for even cooking and improved texture.

    Karachi halwa is made in lots of flavours. Some of the popular flavours are pineapple, pistachios, strawberry, elachi and mango.

    Easy Recipe for Bombay Halwa

    • mix cornflour with water. set aside.
    • heat sugar and water and bring it to a boil.
    • add food colour if using.
    • add in corn flour mix and stir till thickened.
    • slowly add ghee little at a time and keep mixing.
    • cook till it thickens really well.
    • cook on low for 15 to 20 mins.
    • add cardamom and nuts. mix well.
    • pour it into greased mould and leave to cool.
    • un mould, slice and serve.

    1)What is Bombay Halwa made of?

    Bombay halwa also known as karachi halwa is made of corn flour, sugar and ghee. It forms a jelly like texture which is popular with kids.

    2)Why is my karachi halwa not chewy?

    Cook halwa on low heat for at least 15 mins till it gets transparent and glossy. This creates chewy halwa.

    3)How long can I store corn flour halwa for?

    You can store for 3 to 4 days at room temp. For upto 10 days in fridge.

    Cornflour Halwa | Karachi Halwa (Stove Top Version Step by Step Photos)

    1)Take all your ingredients

    2)Grease a pan with little ghee

    3)Mix cornflour with some water

    4)Take sugar in a pan

    5)Add water

    6)Bring it to a boil. Boil this for 5 mins.

    7)Add in a dash of orange food colour

    8)Mix well

    9)Add in the cornflour mixture.

    10)Keep mixing

    10)It will thicken faster

    11)Mix well and keep cooking this.

    12)Keep cooking for at least 3 mins

    13)Add ghee little at a time and keep cooking

    14)Keep mixing this.

    15)cook on a very low heat

    16)Add more ghee if needed

    17)Keep mixing

    18)now the mixture is glossy. this is the stage.

    19)the ghee has separated from the mixture.

    20)add cardamom powder

    21)add in chopped cashews and raisins

    22)mix it into the halwa

    23)Spoon it into the tray. Smoothen the top. Set aside to cool down and set for atleast 3 to 4 hours.

    24)un mould the halwa

    25)Cut it into cubes

    26)Karachi halwa done.

    27)Serve

    Pro Tips

    • Use the same cup to measure all the ingredients.
    • Cooking time will vary as per your microwave power.
    • You can add any flavouring in this halwa.
    • Pour this in a tray and let it set for 2 hours.
    • The halwa will get thick always cook on low heat.
    • You could add any nuts as you like.
    • The halwa will turn shiny and glossy thats when it is ready to pour into moulds.
    • Leave the halwa at room temp for 2 to 3 hours to set. If you don't have time you can set for 30 mins in fridge.

    Many of you must have seen my facebook status update, I mentioned that "I have not started cooking for diwali yet" and raised a question like "what recipe do you want me to cook?". The answer from many is sweets, so decided to do different types of easy sweets. You can see lots of diwali recipes in my blog for this whole week.

    How to Make Corn flour Halwa in Microwave

    Corn flour halwa made in microwave in less than 15 minutes. All you need is just corn flour, sugar, ghee and nuts to make this delicious halwa. If you don't have much time on hand then this would be a perfect sweet to make.

    All you need is take all the ingredients in a microwave safe bowl. cook on high in microwave for a total of 15 mins stirring in between till it gets thick.

    Pour it in moulds and leave it to set.

    Voila! you have a delicious cornflour halwa.

    How to Make Indian Sweets in Microwave

    Yesterday I made this halwa, Can you ever imagine that a halwa can be made in less than 15 mins. Now you can. I used my trusty microwave for cook this one and the result was pretty impressive. The colour was awesome, the texture was a bit like jelly but you get some crunchy nuts in between makes it more tasty. I took some to my mom's place and everyone loved a lot.

    Corn flour Halwa in Microwave Version (Step by Step Photos)

    1)Take corn flour in a microwave safe bowl

    2)add in sugar

    3)add in water

    4)mix till it is combined.

    5)add little food colour of your choice. i used pink colour.

    6)add some cardamom powder

    7)mix well

    8)pop it in microwave and cook on high for 6 mins.

    9)take it out and mix well. now put it back in microwave and cook for another 5 mins or so. it will get very thick.

    10)fry some cashews or badam in ghee and add it into the halwa.

    11)mix this well

    12)pour it into a greased plate and allow it to cool down.

    13)slice and serve

    Ingredients

    Corn flour Halwa in Microwave

    • ½ cup Corn flour
    • 1½ cup Sugar
    • 2 cup Water
    • ½ tsp Cardamom powder
    • a pinch Food Colouring
    • 2 tbsp Ghee
    • 3 tbsp Almonds / Cashews

    Corn flour Halwa in Stove Top

    • 1 cup Corn flour
    • 2 cups Water
    • 1¾ cup Sugar
    • ¼ cup Ghee
    • 2 tbsp Cashews
    • 2 tbsp Kishmish
    • ½ tsp Cardamom powder
    • a pinch Food colour

    Instructions

    How to Make Cornflour Halwa in Microwave

    • Take a microwave safe bowl. Add in corn flour, sugar, water, cardamom, food colouring and mix well.
    • Microwave this on high power for 15 mins. Take it out after every 4 mins and mix well, so that itdoesn't form any lumps.
    • Heat ghee in a small pan and fry some almonds in it. Pour this over the halwa and mix well.
    • Grease a plate with ghee. Pour this halwa on it and shape it.
    • Let it cool for 30 mins. Now cut into pieces and serve.

    How to Make Corn flour halwa in stove top

    • Mix cornflour with 1 ½ cup water. set aside.
    • Take sugar, ½ cup water in a pan. Mix well and bring it to a boil.
    • Boil this for 5 mins.
    • Add in food colour and mix well.
    • Now add in corn flour mix and keep mixing. It will thicken faster so keep on mixing.
    • once it thickens. Slowly add in ghee little at a time and keep mixing on low heat for 15 mins. Add ghee little at a time.
    • After 10 to 15 mins, the halwa will get shiny.
    • Add cardamom powder, cashews and raisins. Mix well.
    • At this stage pour this in greased mould. leave to cool for 3 hours.
    • Un mould the halwa. cut it into cubes and serve.

      @Gayatri DhimanYou can just mix everything up and cook the whole thing in a nonstick kadai, till it leaves the sides.
