    ingredients for making mug cake

Plain Flour - Mug cakes are so adaptable. you can use plain flour or whole wheat flour for making this recipe. It is fail-proof and you can easily use wheat flour for a healthy alternative.

Cocoa - try and use good quality cocoa powder for making cakes. The taste and flavour of the cake depends on the quality of the cocoa powder.

Sugar - adjust sugar level as per your taste. You can add more or less depending on your taste.

Oil or Butter - It is very convenient to use oil in mug cakes instead of butter. If you are using butter you can melt them in microwave for few seconds.

Milk - regular full fat milk is preferred. But almond milk, soy milk can be used.

Instant Coffee - a pinch of coffee powder enhances the taste of the chocolate flavour in the cake.

Baking soda - helps make the soft, fluffy and rise.

Vanilla Extract - this is the flavouring I used for the cake. You can add any extract depending on your taste.

Optional - depending upon the flavour you are making, you can use mashed banana, chocolate chips, sprinkles, white chocolate, nutella.

How to Make Cake in Microwave

Choosing the Right Mug - always use ceramic or stoneware coffee mug for making mug cakes. The mug has to be microwave safe. The batter shouldn't go above half of the mug else it may over flow.

Cake Batter - pick any of your favorite flavour mug cakes listed below. The batter can be directly mixed in the coffee mug instead of a separate bowl. if you are mixing the batter in the same mug, make sure to wipe any batter from the sides to prevent burning.

Microwave Time - Mug cakes usually takes just 1 to 2 minute to cook. Depending on the power of the microwave the cooking time will reduce or increase. The cake will continue to cook after you remove it from the microwave so don't over bake.

I was suddenly craving fr something chocolaty n came across this recipe n it was so simple n I made it in a jiffy... Like someone had commented, I substituted 2tbsp milk with 2tbsp freshly brewed coffee n it turned out heavenly... It made me melt... One of the best microwave cakes I'd ever tasted.. Half of it I topped with buttercream frosting n half I topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream... I'm going crazy here over this cake... Thank you so much fr the wonderful recipe..

I just made this today. I think it is even better than the Nutella recipe I have tried before. Mine also took less than 2 minutes (1 min 45 sec). This definitely needs a tall mug since it bubbles up while baking! I happened to have coconut oil which was extra yummy. Thanks for a great recipe! I always look forward to your updates here in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

I tried this recipe today. The taste was amazing. It was super yummy. I had one problem though. I microwaved it for 1 min 30 secs only but it came out in a biscuit form. Any idea why it could have happened. I didn't have baking soda and hence used baking powder. Will that make any difference?

@Haritha Bolisettyeach microwave varies, so mcrowave it less next time. And dont sub baking soda with baking powder. Because they both are different

@Aarthi Hi Aarthi, I substituted baking soda with baking powder (for 1/4 tsp of soda, added 1/2 tsp of powder) and it came out equally good. It had the same texture and was just ready in 1 min 30 sec!

Hi Aarthi, Thank you for the simple recipe. Do you think we need a pinch of salt just to cut thru' the sweetness of sugar + choc? I tried the recipe once but found it overly sweet.

This has to be cooked in normal microwave mode. Not in convection. SO set it in cook mode on microwave and cook
